It's stunning, really. Nearly 1 in 5 adults in the U.S. are actively managing a chronic medical condition. Improving the overall health of our communities starts with awareness about how we can prevent or delay the progression of progressive conditions that erode quality of life for patients. As one of the most prevalent chronic diseases, chronic kidney disease affects 35.5 million American adults--a whopping 14% of the population! While the majority will never progress to late stage kidney disease or kidney failure, this menace is mostly silent. Therefore, most who have progressing kidney disease do not recognize it until it is too late. There is hope! Primary care providers can help patients to recognize clues and risks; the earlier the better. Being knowledgeable of the signs is key to early intervention with at risk-patient populations. #ChronicDiseaseAwarenessDay #PrimaryCare

Pleased to share my latest research explores the challenges and solutions in combating Hepatitis C (HCV) among people who inject drugs (PWID), a critical public health issue. Injecting drug use is widespread globally. This study identified risk factors for HCV among people who inject drugs (PWID) in Manipur. Our study found that 65.3% of PWID understood HCV's liver impact, while 68.7% believed it curable. Rural PWID face poorer health, highlighting the need for targeted public health interventions, improved treatment access, mental health care, and community support systems. Striking new research. Yet as far as I can tell this is not much on the agenda of next week’s World Health Assembly. I do hope it gets discussed during the events and official agenda items on NCDs! Also during the R&D discussions - new antivirals urgently needed to address Long Covid https://lnkd.in/eZNfiTun
