Very excited to release this report, exploring the unique opportunities and challenges of strategy in the public sector and sharing our lessons learned from the past few years in particular. I'd love to hear from you. Does what we found resonate with your own experiences? What are the most consequential strategic choices your organization needs to make? --- Ask almost any senior public sector leader if they can spend enough time tackling their organization’s biggest problems, and they will say – “absolutely not”. They know what their most critical issues, challenges, and choices are, but they feel unable to devote enough resources to tackle them.   In this report, we outline the challenges and opportunities that all public sector organizations face and convey our belief that strategy is the key to navigating through them. We also lay out concrete steps that every public sector leader can take to build a strategy that will guide their organizations in making better choices to further improve the lives of all Canadians. Our intention with this document is to question the orthodoxies that persist in how we think about and describe strategy in the public sector and make the case for leaders to view strategy as their responsibility. --- Big thanks to my co-authors and collaborators Paul Bien and Julianna Boyle, as well as to the many people whose analysis made this a reality including but not limited to Sara Owen-Flood, John Cengarle, Alvin Lin, Meghan Swinkels, and Robert Denault.
