Today is a milestone moment as HX Hurtigruten Expeditions launches the first-ever cruises from New York to Greenland, roundtrip from New York! These flight-inclusive itineraries feature dedicated flight allocations on United Airlines new direct routes to Nuuk, launching on June 14.
As a Product Manager and proud Nuuk resident, this is more than a product debut—it’s about sharing my home country with the world in an authentic and meaningful way.
#Greenland is on the cusp of transformation. With the opening of our new international airport and direct flights, our country is more accessible than ever. But as interest grows, we have a responsibility to ensure tourism uplifts our communities and respects our environment.
These itineraries were crafted in collaboration with Greenlandic communities and partners across the country, designed to offer travelers a truly authentic experience. From breathtaking landscapes to meaningful cultural connections, each voyage celebrates Greenland’s natural beauty while uplifting and respecting our communities.
For Greenlanders, these expeditions are more than #tourism—they are bridges. They let us share our stories, celebrate our land and cultural heritage, and create new opportunities for Greenlanders.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone at #HX Expeditions and to our local partners for making this vision a reality. I can’t wait to see how these journeys inspire and transform everyone involved!

#Cruises are back in #Nouméa, as well as in Lifou! 🚢
Following a site visit to assess the situation and numerous constructive discussions with local authorities and industry stakeholders, the two main cruise lines serving the archipelago, Carnival Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines (RCCL), have confirmed the resumption of their stopover programs in #NewCaledonia. 🌏
This Sunday, November 10th, local authorities, tourism service providers, artisans, dancers, and more gathered to warmly welcome passengers of the majestic RCCL ship, Ovation Of The Seas, under a radiant sky. This first #stopover will soon be followed by Carnival's Westerdam, arriving in Lifou and Nouméa on the 13th and 14th of the month, and then Carnival Splendor in Nouméa on the 17th and 19th.
The return of cruises is fantastic news for the many foreign #travellers eager to (re)discover our destination, as well as for all the local players who rely on this essential economic activity, which had been halted for nearly six months due to the events of May 13th.
You can find numerous offers for cruise passengers in Nouméa (collated in partnership with the Syndicat des Commerçants de Nouvelle-Calédonie and the CCI Nouvelle-Calédonie) on our cruise web portal, clearly featured at the maritime station: https://lnkd.in/gEZ4fJN7
As a reminder, in 2023, recovering from the Covid crisis, New Caledonia was a popular destination for 343,703 passengers and 118 cruise ships in Nouméa and Lifou, reinforcing its spot among the TOP 5 major cruise ports in France. Visitor numbers were even #rising in the first quarter of 2024, with 120,564 passengers, marking a 13% increase compared to 2023. 📈
As Julie Laronde, CEO of NCT, says: “While the resumption of cruising is obviously a major economic issue for New Caledonia, it is also a strong symbol, showcasing our regained capacity to welcome tourists and travel operators from around the world. It’s a key milestone in our overall strategy to reassure and boost tourism to our destination.”
