l learnt something very important from this very amazing INGRYD Academy queen, Mrs Khadijat Abdulkadir yesterday during our graduation ceremony.
She explained that in tech, you can be celebrated as a champion last night, only to wake up the following morning to discover that you are no longer the shining star.
Her reason is simple. In tech, new things happen everyday, new inventions are made, new programming languages are developed and new skills are introduced.
As a tech sis or tech bro, if you are not on your toes learning new skills in your chosen career path, understanding new technologies, then you can become obsolete overnight.
Your amazing boss who celebrated you yesterday as the champion of the organization suddenly comes in today and asks you a question concerning a very new technology and you look lost.
He becomes disappointed, and he turns to look at your colleague for the answer. If that colleague of yours, who by the way may even be your far junior has the answers to his question, then you have become an ex-champion. in fact, you have become obsolete overnight.
The genius colleague becomes the new champion and the cycle continues.
As a fresh blood in this career path, I do not want to be obsolete before even starting my journey in data science. I desire to grow daily and not just become relevant, I want to remain relevant. I want to be a force to reckon with.
Yes, I know I can commit several hours into learning new concepts and technologies propelling data science, but this cannot take the place of hands-on experience. People learn better by doing, and not just by reading.
I hereby call on organizations and companies that can help me remain relevant to please reach out, and help fan my embers to light. Thank you all.
