Wrote another article with Deeds Magazine: Breaking Boundaries: Dadju and Tayc's Héritage Album: Bridging Francophone and Anglophone Markets with Diverse Genres French artists Dadju and Tayc recently dropped a joint project, Héritage, poised to get the attention of both the Francophone and Anglophone markets. This project is composed of various genres, from RnB, Hip Hop, Caribbean influence, and French Afropop, to Congolese Rumba and Ndombolo. Upon the release of this album, the pair held a three-day concert at L’Accor Arena in Paris, which has a capacity of 20,000 people. The first three-days sold out, prompting them to add three more dates at the Arena. When listening to this album, I noticed how they incorporated very little experimentation in terms of the overall product. For the most part, we received the classical Parisian metropolitan AfroPop/French RnB sound with few deviations. Don’t get me wrong, their fanbase love this sound and they are certainly not complaining. I believe that they also took into account their anglophone fanbase and wanted to present a project that they could easily digest being that there is already a language barrier. This was a commercially-led project with a few sprinklings of artistic experimentation. The two tracks that I did find to incorporate some experimentation were “Épouse-moi” and “La vie d’un… / Ma préférée.” Trying to accommodate two different markets who don’t even speak the same language can be a difficult feat for artists, but it is not impossible. Dadju and Tayc are doing so by leaning into their French RnB bag and infusing a few English lyrics here and there, while also maintaining their usual AfroPop sound. Where artists can stand out is finding ways of incorporating some of the popular genres of those various markets into a product that still feels true to the their sound, and maintain appeal to all audiences. MINOR CHORD PROGRESSION #pianobasics 30 Minor chord progression is another common chord progression in music. Among minor chord progressions the i-VI-III-VII progression is a popular choice for composers due to its ability to evoke a sense of mystery and sadness. In the key of A minor, this progression would consist of the chords Am (i), F (VI), C (III), and G (VII). It is the minor flipside of the major progression vi-IV-I-V, which is also a popular chord progression. This progression can be found in various songs across different genres and keys. Some songs that use the i-VI-III-VII minor progression include: 1. "That Don't Impress Me Much" by Shania Twain (verses), 2. "The Passenger" by Iggy Pop (half of the main riff is i-VI-III-VII, with the ending half ending on the V instead of the VII), 3. "The Other Side" by Red Hot Chili Peppers (verses), 4. "Play It All Night Long" by Warren Zevon, 5. "Save Tonight" by Eagle Eye Cherry, 6. "Radio Nowhere" by Bruce Springsteen (though the VII has the third in the bass instead of the root), " 7. "Too Good at Goodbyes" by Sam Smith and 8. "Feel Me" by Selena Gomez. To transpose this progression to different keys, you would need to change the chords to match the new key's scale. For example, in the key of C minor, the i-VI-III-VII progression would be Cm (i), Abmaj (VI), Ebmaj (III), and Bbmaj (VII) You can transpose to the following keys in the comments: C#min Emin Ebmin Gmin Let me have your questions in the comments... #prosam #pianotutor
