Our first big step towards a plastic-free future was switching our on-property water to Proud Source Water. Sustainably sourced spring water bottled in infinitely recyclable aluminum packaging. We offer two complimentary bottles in every room with many refill stations available on the property. In collaboration with Replenysh, we're ensuring every aluminum can and bottle we collect is properly recycled and reused.

Great research piece on global recycling rates for beverage cans. If you’re interested in public policy, aluminum, and/or behavioral economics it’s a great subject to research. You’ll find in the US there are very different recycling rates by state, mainly driven from incentives (or lack of incentives) and different policies within each state, county and city providing accessibility to recycling services. It’s an opportunity for US consumer’s to reduce waste and create value by lowering product costs.

Eunomia Research & Consulting and Reloop recently published the Global Recycling League Table Phase 1 with around 40 countries. We have created a map with the reported metal beverage containers recycling rates in those 'phase 1' countries. Looking forward for more countries in phase 2. Full report: https://lnkd.in/gYdGSM4t

Dr Anna Willetts | Partner at gunnercooke | Environmental Criminal Lawyer | Immediate Past President of CIWM
I made two New Year's resolutions this year. One has been kept so far, 😇 the other was kept until June 😈 Next year my resolution will be to not go in fast-food outlets on the way back from site visits.1.The high-salt, high-fat, high-calorie food raises your blood pressure. 2. The 'we pretend to recycle but we aren't actually' bins raise your blood pressure. From this labelling, it looks like they have waste segregation, but on closer inspection, it's just all one bag underneath. Dragged the manager out to explain himself and the answer was much like I got during my cable rant at the HWRC last week. 'Yeah we don't recycle, no point, it all ends up in the same place doesn't it.' Well yes it does if you don't segregate it and put in all one black residual waste bag.... 🙄 So why are you pretending you do recycle with these labels? Bit misleading for the consumer isn't it? I was offered a free high-fat, high-salt, high-calorie food item if I'd just go away and stop bothering him with my stupid recycling ideas. Took the CIWM medal home and gave it a read of Dan's Presidential report to calm down and read some good things about what the waste industry does well and restore its faith in waste 😏 #stoppretendingsubway

Largest recycler in North America checking in! ✅ On average, our steel and steel products are made from 77% recycled content. ✅ With some containing up to 100% recycled content. ✅ That adds up to recycling 20 million tons of steel annually. ✅ We’re also reusing 89% of the water used in our production process. ✅ All of that significantly reduces our need for new raw materials. ✅ And results in preserving valuable resources for future generations. If you’re into recycling, you need to know about glass. 🥛 Glass is 100% recyclable. It can be infinitely processed without losing any of its original quality. ♻️ But the truth is – 50% of glass in the UK is sent to landfills yearly. 🗑️ It is absolutely important to do glass recycling properly so we can make the most out of it. In the world of recycling, efficiency and effectiveness are paramount. Balers play a crucial role in compressing recyclable materials into compact, manageable bales, making transportation and storage more economical. Among the various types of balers available, two-ram balers and single-ram balers stand out for their distinct features and applications. Understanding the differences between these two can help businesses make informed decisions that align with their operational needs and goals. Learn more - https://lnkd.in/eHSwAgw8

Recycle, melt, cast – repeat! Increasing recycling rates in all countries across Europe and worldwide is a key lever on our joint route to decarbonization. I am glad to hear that Italy has made progress on their path: In 2022, the country has reached a recycling rate in aluminium packaging of 73.6% exceeding the current European Community targets for 2025 (50%) and 2030 (60%) according to the Italian national aluminium packaging consortium (CIAL). The rate for beverage cans even amounted to 91.6% which is an enormous improvement compared to just three years ago (67%). In order to achieve full circular systems, we also need to strive for a high quality in the collection of used beverage cans to leverage recycling to the fullest. At Novelis, we will never get tired of stressing the big impact and importance recycling and the quality of the material have: recycling aluminium saves around 95% of energy and carbon emissions compared to primary aluminium production without losing quality in material properties. Well done Italy – a good example for others to follow! #ShapingASustainableWorldTogether #EveryCanCounts
