🌊 Revolutionizing green hydrogen production, scientists at Heriot-Watt University, Scotland, have unveiled a groundbreaking solution to the water-intensive green hydrogen process.
Using nanoscale particles, specifically nickel selenide, they've transformed wastewater from distilleries into a substitute for freshwater. This not only addresses the environmental impact but also significantly reduces the 9kg of water required for every 1kg of green hydrogen.
With global distilleries producing around one million meters of wastewater annually, this sustainable approach marks a giant leap toward reducing freshwater consumption. The researchers are now moving to prototype an electrolyser and explore additional valuable materials recoverable from distillery wastewater.
The green hydrogen market, valued at US$755 million in 2020, is set to reach US$1.4 billion by 2026, signalling a pivotal step in eco-friendly energy solutions. 🌍
