A new business for Repsol. Our #RepsolTarragona site will have a new plant with a disruptive process to transform 400kta of MSW into 250kta of methanol to be used on mobility decarbonization as chemical industry circularity. Together with Enerkem, Repsol will enhance the evolution of the chemical business with this new technology and position itself at the front of the European industrial transformation. I had the opportunity to visit the #Enerkem "pilot/demonstration plant" in Edmonton, Canada in 2022. More than the chemical process or the engineering... the most valuable lesson I took from that visit was the way that information, training and community involvement is a key factor in a behavior transformation. There, children at young age start to listen that waste is a kind of energy, that waste segregation at home is efficiency and that their actions matter. A lot to learn and to import... For now, we as #Repsol will invest 800M€ in a geography that is pointing the chemical industry as something to be minimized. Well, these are the projects that bring #innovation, #employment and #evolution. We want to be leaders and not followers. We dared to develop #economy!

2025 and it is a whole lot more complicated now in the face of one of the most challenging pieces of legislation to ever hit shipping. Pooling, Banking, Borrowing are all going to be new to the shipping lexicon. The FuelEU Maritime regulation provides lots of flexibility but to learn how best to comply, good granular data of onboard consumers is essential and to understand when and where to bunker biofuels or to pool with vessels with lower carbon intensity fuels. 2025 also brings in the Med ECA which will provide further dynamic changes in the bunkering markets, a higher ETS charge for tank to wake emissions, and much more to come from the IMO at MEPC 83.
