A Joint Declaration of Intent has been signed by representatives of #Germany, #Algeria, #Italy, #Austria and #Tunisia in Rome to strengthen European-North African collaboration on the #SouthH2Corridor project. The initiative will establish a direct pipeline connection for gaseous #hydrogen between North Africa, Italy, Austria and Germany, consisting of five sub-projects and spanning 3,500-4,000km. The respective transmission system operators are currently planning for the European segment to be 3,250km long, with 60-70% being repurposed natural gas pipelines. H2 View understands that this will enable the transport of up to 163TWh of #greenhydrogen annually to Europe. https://lnkd.in/ghwxPe-P European Commission | Ministero degli Affari Esteri e della Cooperazione Internazionale | Ministero dell'Ambiente e della Sicurezza Energetica | Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action | Snam S.p.A. | TAG GmbH | Gas Connect Austria | bayernets GmbH

Just listening in on the current ongoing webinar of The European Hydrogen Backbone initiative. It is great to see that this initiative and the very capable and motivated colleagues from the European gas infrastructure business continuing to push this very important topic. 👍 As Daniel Mes of DG Clima put it in his key note speech "hydrogen is an important part of the future energy system" and the European hydrogen infrastructure can enable a European hydrogen industry. 👉 I was fortunate enough to gather a group of European gas TSOs in Nov 2019 to a meeting room in Brussels just beside Bruxelles-Midi to pitch the idea to develop a tangible and realistic vision for a European hydrogen backbone. The EHB initiative was born and grew substantially and a Europe-wide H2 infrastructure became a topic in many policy debate and legislation. It was very fulfilling being allowed to chair this effort the first two years. ‼️I said at the time that the focus will shift going forward onto the hydrogen supply side: where will it come from and how? How to achieve positive business cases? 🌐 In my new role at Höegh LNG I am engaged in developing maritime import infrastructure projects which will allow hydrogen imports via the ammonia route. Either by using existing FSRU-infrastructure which we offer to use in hybrid mode importing natural gas and hydrogen in parallel and new dedicated ammonia-to-hydrogen import terminals. These solutions can be available to the market by 2028 and hence can significantly contribute to utilise hydrogen infrastructure anticipated. 🌞 So I look forward to seeing competitively priced green ammonia from the global sources complementing European hydrogen supplies and reaching European industry customers via the developed first stretches of the EHB... Keep up the good work Maria and Sara 💪 #hydrogen #infrastructure #energytransition

🌿🔥 **GAS PACKAGE: Adoption of the Interinstitutional Agreement** The EU Council adopted, on May 21, the interinstitutional agreement on the gas package, including a directive and a regulation, aiming to promote the integration of renewable and low-carbon gases into the energy system, particularly for hydrogen production. 📜 **Content of the Package:** - Member states are given the option to limit gas imports from Russia and Belarus. - Establishment of the independent entity ENNOH to plan European hydrogen networks, operational from January 2027. - Introduction of a common structural gas purchasing system and a five-year pilot project to support the EU hydrogen market. - End of long-term contracts for fossil gas from 2049 to gradually phase out fossil fuels. 🌍🔬 **Objective:** To promote the transition to more sustainable energy sources and reduce dependence on fossil fuels while enhancing the EU's energy security. 💬 **Reactions:** Hungary is the only country to have rejected this package, highlighting the complexity of geopolitical and energy issues within the EU. #GasPackage #EnergyTransition #Hydrogen #RenewableEnergy #EU 🌱🔥

With its offshore wind resources and carbon storage potential, the North Sea could play a central role in low-emissions hydrogen production in Europe. In parallel, future hydrogen and hydrogen-derivatives trade market could have a focal point in the North Sea for imports to Europe, as several major ports have plans to develop infrastructure to receive it. ☀️🌍 Is Russia on the Brink of a Green Energy Revolution? 🇷🇺✨ Dr. Ajay Mathur, head of the International Solar Alliance (ISA), emphasizes that Russia, long recognized for its vast oil and gas reserves, has the potential to emerge as a global leader in solar energy and green hydrogen! 🌱💡 With its sunny southern regions, Russia could harness its solar power potential and collaborate with ISA to share best practices worldwide. Notably, Russia already excels in hydroelectric power and water electrolysis, paving the way for a promising economic future in hydrogen exports—projected to generate $100 billion annually by 2050! 💰🔋 As the Russian government begins to confront climate change, investments in both green and blue hydrogen technologies are on the rise, along with stricter emission controls under President Putin’s leadership. 🌿🏛️ Could this be the beginning of the end for Moscow's reliance on gas and oil? The future of energy is shifting, and Russia is well-positioned to lead the charge! 🚀 #RenewableEnergy #SolarPower #GreenHydrogen #ClimateAction #InternationalSolarAlliance #Sustainability #Alberta #Calgary #Edmonton #yyc #yeg Read more: https://lnkd.in/gNE3DZ6G

The transition to a full renewable world is achievable but in this journey there are enabling technologies and fuels that it will act as enablers to decarbonize our activities, being natural gas the most prominent. Read more about our this in our latest report!
💨 The role of natural gas as a transition fuel in bridging the energy gap. 💨 The global energy landscape is undergoing a significant transformation. Achieving global net zero by 2050 requires a shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy, which comes with challenges during the transition phase. But natural gas is considered a transitional fuel due to its lower carbon footprint compared to coal. Recent geopolitical events, including Russia’s war on Ukraine, have elevated the role of natural gas, particularly from the Middle East and the growing Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) production and exports from the US. ➡️ In the Fossil Detox Report, we have identified natural gas as transition fuel.
