Could a two-tier low-carbon #hydrogen market emerge? Policymakers in many parts of the world are keen to avoid a two-tier low-carbon hydrogen market - regulation varies significantly by country, however, and this variance risks the emergence of a two-tier market for electrolytic hydrogen. Hydrogen Colour is So Last Year Hydrogen production is shifting towards greener practices, and it's not just about colour anymore. Carbon intensity is the new buzzword, and it varies depending on the project, location, and time. Efforts to reduce carbon intensity throughout the value chain will not only impact costs but also determine eligibility for subsidies. Different regions have their own definitions of carbon intensity and emissions scopes. The EU considers emissions across the full life cycle, while the US has set increasingly demanding requirements for eligibility for production tax credits. In Asia, Japan and South Korea are expanding their emissions scope to include ammonia conversion and transportation emissions. Detailed certification across the value chain will soon be a necessity for project developers to sell their product in an increasing number of markets. However, this comes at a cost and without a global agreement on carbon-intensity measurements, methodology, and rules, developers may require multiple certificates to access different markets. #HydrogenProduction #CarbonIntensity #GreenEnergy #Sustainability
