There's many pathways to success, from college degrees to apprenticeships. The value of apprenticeship programs is increasingly being recognized, as students may earn while they learn, strengthen their social and psychological identities, and gain employable skills. https://lnkd.in/eFbX-3XU #Hygieia #HigherEducation #Apprenticeships

A four-year degree is not the end-all and be-all of success. In fact, nondegree pathways such as apprenticeships, boot camps, certificates, and certification programs have a lot to offer young people. Check out this post from our three-part series based on "Success Redefined," our survey with Jobs for the Future (JFF) on how non-degree postsecondary pathways offer a way to economic and career stress. "Instead of the singular goal of college for all, Americans want multiple pathways for their children to succeed. This opportunity pluralism affirms that there are many ways for young people to thrive, not simply by obtaining a four-year degree. The addition of the apprenticeship pathway makes the nation’s opportunity structure more pluralistic and egalitarian." and "oday, 27,000 registered programs enroll around 500,000 individuals, whose average age is 29, with roughly 70 percent in construction trades. That is only 0.3 percent of the workforce, which places the United States at the bottom of apprenticeship enrollment among countries that have apprenticeship programs." https://lnkd.in/gdR6mdem via Bruno Manno

Today’s #NAW2024 focus? Registered Apprenticeships in new and emerging industries around the world. 🌎 Apprenticeship Degrees are rising to the occasion across sectors in the U.S. and abroad, bridging the long-standing gap between higher education, employers, and degree seekers. For example, in the U.K., apprenticeship-based degree programs are expected to account for *20% of postsecondary starts* within the decade. That’s a meaningful percentage. And as our friend Ben Wildavsky highlighted in Work Shift last week, “Germans are jumping on degree apprenticeships.” Nearly half of all young people are “enrolling in a new kind of college,” attracting a “broad range of students who want to pursue postsecondary studies but with clear practical applications.” Together, these trends underscore the growing power of apprenticeship-based degrees in meeting workforce demands worldwide. So can we expect to replicate that same market share here in the U.S.? Reach University & National Center for the Apprenticeship Degree (NCAD) believe so. In “Is the Workplace the New College Campus?” President Ross explores how Apprenticeship Degrees draw on global best practices while addressing the distinct needs of working adults and employers in the U.S. Give it a read this NAW, and let us know your thoughts in the comment below: https://lnkd.in/gk9turB4 #ApprenticeshipDegrees #College #Career #Job2Degree

https://lnkd.in/e-TiwS4h Encouraging news that the public are starting to embrace apprenticeships. The key to all of this is EMPLOYERS. The apprenticeships are there and available but we need employers to offer the positions and opportunities or we are heading for an even greater skills shortage than we currently have. #skillsforlife #careers #businessgrowth #apprenticeships

Is there a way to close the skills and experience gaps simultaneously? How about apprenticeship: earn-and-learn experiences that pay a living wage while delivering formal skills training and experience? Switzerland is an excellent example of this approach to education.
