In 2016, a joint report issued by the Virginia Commonwealth University, the Center on Society and Health, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation reported as much as a 20-year life expectancy difference between Philadelphia zip codes less than 5 miles apart. This shocking stat shows how social determinants of health (SDOH) act inequitably on health outcomes, but affects us all. https://lnkd.in/eXxXg87c #Hygieia #SDOH #SocialDeterminantsofHealth #wholepersonhealthcare #philadelphia

I woke up with this in my heart - Health is a fundamental human right, one that should be accessible to everyone, regardless of race, gender, socioeconomic status, or geographic location. It goes beyond merely the absence of illness. Access to healthcare, clean water, nutritious food, mental health services, and safe living environments should never be a privilege reserved for the few; it must be a guaranteed right for all. Yet, millions around the world are denied this basic necessity due to systemic inequalities, underfunded health systems, and social discrimination. Advocating for health as a human right is advocating for justice and equity and that is what I stand for. It is then about creating a world where a child’s survival doesn’t depend on where they were born, where individuals can seek care without fear of financial ruin, and where marginalized voices are heard and prioritized in the design of health policies. Let’s commit to raising awareness, challenging systems of inequality, and holding leaders accountable to ensure that health is recognized as a right, not a privilege. Because when health is upheld as a human right, everyone wins. #HealthIsAHumanRight #EquityInHealth #RightToHealth

Today is National Rural Health Day. On this day - and every day - we celebrate the resilience of rural communities and the dedicated healthcare workers serving them. But we must also recognize the hurdles they face: 🚗 Long distances to care 📉 Higher uninsured rates 🧠 Limited mental health resources These challenges impact everyone, from the food on your table to the strength of our national economy. Together, we can advocate for solutions to ensure health equity for rural America. #RuralHealthDay #SupportRuralCommunities #PowerofRural

Promoting social inclusion across policies is a good public health approach to promoting healthy living conditions. There is ample research on the negative impacts of stigma and stress on population health. Chronic stress caused by discrimination contributes to declining health. Inevitably, whatever health problem you pick to address, once you start digging into the Social Determinants of Health, you’re tackling the same issues.

My perspective, these young people (k-12) can benefit immensely from taking daily class about how to deal with emotions, how to talk to each other, how to treat each other preferably starting in preschool. To avoid suicide among this age. The education system is fails to teach children about the most important things “themselves, “their emotions” how to treat each other, how to talk to each other, and how to care for their immediate environment. And as for health care for these children whom we are taking the responsibility to train so they can live in a conscious civilized world, their health should not be dependent on an institution, instead, they should have a daily class about the natural food their bodies needs, how to prepare it and preserve it. Moreover, their health should not depend on artificial medicine, rather they should be learning how to prepare natural medicine. I think it is time to start teaching real knowledge. The rest it’s pretty much unnecessary. They need to learn about themselves first, before learning about anything else, after all, am sure we all agree that we want a generation of healthy kids that can take care of themselves, and can communicate with empathy, and understand their emotions before training them for industrial labor? I think we need to start thinking outside the box.
To address the youth mental health crisis and meet children where they spend the majority of their waking hours — in schools — UnitedHealthcare is collaborating with Hazel Health to provide 1 million students access to virtual healthcare services in up to fourteen states by 2025. “It’s time that we break the silos that traditionally separate educators, health care providers, health plans and policymakers to pioneer solutions that ease burdens for families and demonstrate real results for our children." - Josh Golomb, CEO of Hazel Health Read more on this innovative partnership from Krista Nelson, CEO of UnitedHealthcare Community & State here: https://lnkd.in/ecWKNUj6

Understanding Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) is crucial for creating a healthier society. SDOH are the conditions in which people are born, grow, live, work, and age that affect a wide range of health risks and outcomes. Factors like economic stability, education quality, access to healthcare, neighborhood environment, and social and community context play a significant role in our overall health. Addressing these determinants requires a multi-faceted approach: ensuring equitable access to resources, implementing policies that promote health equity, and fostering community engagement. By focusing on improving conditions such as affordable housing, quality education, job opportunities, and safe environments, we can mitigate health disparities and promote better health outcomes for all. It's about creating systems that support health for everyone, not just those who are already advantaged. Let’s work together to tackle the root causes of health inequities and build a healthier, more just society. #SocialDeterminants #HealthEquity #PublicHealth #CommunityWellness #PolicyChange #HealthyCommunities
