I’ve had such an incredible crash course in the power, possibility and urgency of inclusive R and D for education. One of the most striking things I’ve learned since I joined Advanced Education Research and Development Fund (AERDF) Education Research and Development Fund (AERDF) is that educators often find ourselves stuck between competing incentive structures. On one hand there is an incredible academic network whose ideas, research and knowledge is essential but whose incentives are often geared towards publication and knowledge generation. And on the other pole is tech enabled tools and companies - which often provide essential services but whose incentives are tied to scale and engagement. While these two are essential to the future of education they are also insufficient. The Advanced Education Research and Development Fund (AERDF) Education Research and Development Fund (AERDF) is building a new incentive architecture in which incredible partners like Andres Bustamante and Kreshnik Begolli and their incredible team can find the time, space and support to ask different questions and find new ways to the answers. This is essential to the future of education and they are a headlight in the work of what doing things differently might look like.

Due to the immense interest in Saint Mark's High School, awards that are not claimed by 2/15 will be terminated. Admitted students who do not enroll by 2/15 cannot be guaranteed a seat in the Saint Mark's Class of 2028. We were so excited last week to unveil a new campaign we're launching this summer at American Student Assistance with Grammy and Academy Award-winning artist Common: #IAmFreeToDream. This campaign centers the dreams of "opportunity" youth–the 5 million+ kids in the U.S. neither working nor in school–including those involved in the justice system. The power of dreams for our young people simply cannot be understated. But in order to help kids in every corner of the country understand and believe that their dreams are attainable, we must first address and mitigate the many systemic barriers that can often inhibit them from even feeling that they have permission to dream big. Then, we must ensure that we're able to extend resources to help them bridge those dreams to potential education and career pathways. Proud to be a University of South Carolina Gamecock! There are lots of reasons to have Gamecock pride, but today my pride focuses of access and affordability of higher education for South Carolina high school graduates. Starting with admissions for the fall 2024 semester, USC will admit all students in the top 10 percent of their class at South Carolina high schools. Admissions = access. But as President Amiridis wrote, “…access without affordability is sometimes meaningless.” So in addition to access/admission, the USC Commitment will cover costs of tuition and academic fees for South Carolina students who are in the top 10% of their graduating class and whose family income is less than $80,000. Accesss and affordability… that’s how change, how difference is made. Go Gamecocks!
