"Less than 2% of philanthropic giving in the United States directly benefits women and girls. Similarly, women-found startups also accounted for 2% or less of VC funding in 2023." While the barriers created by this are real and frustrating, the silver lining is the outsized impact/return philanthropists and investors can get when supporting non-profits focused on women and girls and startups founded by women. #investinwomen
Less than 2% of philanthropic giving in the United States directly benefits women and girls. Similarly, women-found startups also accounted for 2% or less of VC funding in 2023. Those stats underscore some of the barriers, but women are playing a powerful role in creating tremendous opportunities. I joined Felecia Hatcher, Brynne McNulty Rojas, and Ida Rademacher to discuss some of the strategies we’re leveraging and how they’re supporting women in becoming a larger part of the economy. GlobalGiving UK has launched what it believes is the UK’s first Women in Tech Giving Circle, aimed at facilitating collective giving by women leaders in the tech industry and supporting community causes worldwide. Alex Ritchie, CEO of GlobalGiving UK, said: “When women come together with a shared vision of generosity, compassion, and power, they unleash a ripple effect that resonates far and wide. Philanthropy, like tech, has historically been male-dominated. By contrast, giving circles are often majority women, reflecting their open and welcoming approach to facilitating philanthropy on any scale and any issue.” https://bit.ly/44CwhDe #ReedTechnology #Technology #Tech #WomenInTech #Giving

BLUF (Bottom Line Up Front): Style Her Empowered https://lnkd.in/eChuqiRi is a non-profit that is a great example of how one person’s ideas and drive to achieve can change the world, at least in the lives of some people. I try to stay abreast of actual, world news and not just the dark corners of cybersecurity and cybercrime so here is a news article that I think is work sharing. https://lnkd.in/ebQHnywC Payton McGriff was a marketing major who took an entrepreneurship class her senior year. She has read a book that talked about the obstacles facing females in pursuing education, literacy, and just work to earn a living and decided to address that area in her class project. That senior project became https://lnkd.in/eChuqiRi where, “Today, her nonprofit, Style Her Empowered – known as SHE – provides 1,500 girls a year in the African country of Togo with free uniforms, school fees, supplies, tutoring, and much more.” To donate to Style Her Empowered via GoFundMe, go to https://lnkd.in/eDkQMCuk. What a case study in taking an idea from a book to changing peoples’ lives. BUT wait, there’s more! https://lnkd.in/eUFrNAjs rates charities and you can search by type, rating, location, etc. Maybe you can find one that strikes a spark in you. If you are local to me, https://lnkd.in/eAcT_mQS is a great one to support via donations or helping out. I do.

#SheReadsSheLeads for #IWD2024 Author No 7. Cassie is happy to support #SheReadsSheLeads, for International Women’s Day and beyond. Donating copies of her beautiful ‘The Daily Choices Journal: Create the future you desire’ Cassie told us that the most important thing for her is to gift some books to those who will benefit. She explained that this journal has been designed to help you make choices towards what you want and away from what you do not want. It will help you to raise your consciousness and direct your focus and awareness to a state where all things are possible. Supporting Women Entrepreneurs too Cassie also donated several copies of her ‘Better Business, Better Life, Better World’ book compiled by B1G1, the Global Business For Good Organisation. All books donated contain a personal and inspirational message from the Author to their reader. All books are lovingly hand wrapped and finished by members of @HucknallWI with decoration and a different inspirational message on the outer packaging. Messages to give renewed hope and empowerment to women in need right now... What is She Reads, She Leads? Did you know there are over 4,000 active giving circles worldwide, with approximately 70% of giving circles being majority women? On 23 April, we launched our Women in Tech Giving Circle and invited C-suite women in technology to join as Founding Members. Giving circles operate on the principle of collective giving, which can include donations of any size or of the contribution of a person’s time. We look forward to collaborating with such a remarkable group of women on this initiative. At the core of this initiative is technology, which serves as a vital tool that helps us connect thousands of community-led charities worldwide with donors. As technology continues to advance, it not only enhances this connection but also increases the influence of women in shaping philanthropy. As part of GlobalGiving's modernization project, an amazing group of experts is joining us to form the Technology and Innovation Advisory Council to guide us in harnessing evolving technology for good. Their invaluable guidance will help us harness evolving technology for the greater good, ensuring that philanthropy remains responsive to the changing landscape. Throughout May, we are extending the invitation to join as a Founding Member of the UK’s first Women in Tech Giving Circle to UK-based women in tech.
