🌐World's Most Accurate Atomic Clock Created Scientists from JILA, a joint institute of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the University of Colorado Boulder, have created the most accurate atomic clock in history. 🕔This clock operates based on ultracold strontium atoms. It is capable of keeping time with incredible precision, losing only one second every 30 billion years. This means that if such a clock had started ticking at the beginning of the Universe, the Universe would still need to be more than twice its current age for the clock to lose just one second. Unlike the standard atomic clock, which uses cesium atoms, the new device operates at optical frequencies. I’m super proud to share with you that I discovered the first MIRI extremely red object, that I called “Cerberus”. Cerberus is a puzzling object, barely detected in the most deepest NIRCam images available on the market, that can be unveiled only thanks to the Mid-Infrared instrument (MIRI) on board of JWST. We don’t know about the nature of Cerberus, but we tried to study it in this first paper dedicated to it. Please read the paper on arXiv and share with me your thoughts! #jwst #discovery
