Exciting news in Houston! FTA has awarded the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County $1.2 million to plan for transit-oriented development along its proposed Gulfton Corridor bus rapid transit line. The federal funding will help METRO identify locations for future mixed-use development, devise strategies to enhance transit access in underserved communities, and assess community infrastructure needs, such as repairs to sidewalks, crosswalks and traffic signals. bit.ly/FY24TOD

The release of the Phase 2 'Final Grenfell Tower Inquiry Report' this morning, alongside the 45 minute live press conference with members of the inquiry panel, led by Sir Martin Moore-Bick was a powerful and emotive point-in-time, 7 years in the making. Equally as powerful and much more heart-felt was the Grenfell United community groups news conference that followed, which sent a clear and direct message to the Government to not only implement all of the recommendations presented, but to also continue to enforce and deliver change across the construction industry. The final Report, across 7 volumes, 14 sections and over 1700 pages, including the 52 page overview/summary is going to take a while to digest, reflect, review and comment on, but we all owe it to those 54 Adults and 18 Children that sadly perished, and to their bereaved families and friends, to read every page, and to learn from these findings, to ensure this 'chain of failures' can never happen again. The full and final report can be downloaded here: https://lnkd.in/eBvmu38B #FireDNA #PassiveFireProtection #FireProtection #FireDoors #FireSafety #FireDoorsets #FireDoorCompliance #FireDoorMaintenance #FireDoorLegislation #GoldenThread #RegulatoryReformOrder #ResponsiblePersons #DutyHolders #Regulation10 #FireCertification #InstallationCompetency #Collaboration #GrenfellUnited

"I strongly resonate with this sentiment. Throughout my career, I've experienced numerous instances where my expertise was undervalued and untapped. Despite my efforts to contribute, I was often met with dismissal, being told that others were the experts. This lack of trust and recognition can be detrimental to one's professional growth and morale, creating a toxic dynamic that stifles collaboration and innovation."
I think I’ve cracked the code for myself on this and it is our latest project of planning Reentry Focused Outdoor Activities. This project combines my love for mountains and the ocean with my passion for improving correctional culture and promoting successful reentry and reintegration.

Offering warm spaces in winter is a vital community service for several reasons: Protecting Vulnerable Populations: Many people, especially the elderly, low-income families, and individuals experiencing homelessness, cannot afford adequate heating. A warm space provides relief and helps prevent hypothermia or other cold-related illnesses. Reducing Energy Costs: With rising energy prices, some households struggle to pay their bills. Public warm spaces allow people to save on heating costs by spending time in a warm, communal environment. Fostering Community and Mental Well-being: Isolation tends to increase during winter due to harsh weather. Warm spaces create opportunities for social interaction, reducing loneliness and improving mental health. Emergency Relief in Extreme Weather: During extreme cold spells, warm spaces act as critical shelters for those who may be stranded or at risk. Promoting Public Health: Exposure to cold temperatures exacerbates health issues like asthma, cardiovascular problems, and respiratory infections. Warm spaces help mitigate these risks. Inclusivity and Support: Warm spaces embody community solidarity by offering help to anyone in need, fostering a sense of belonging and mutual care. By providing warm spaces, communities address immediate needs while demonstrating compassion and resilience during challenging times. #muathtrust

Friday marks the 7th anniversary of the Grenfell Tower fire, which claimed 72 lives. This tragedy highlighted the inequalities in our society, particularly in housing safety for low-income and ethnically diverse communities. Despite promises of reform, progress has been slow. Many buildings still have unsafe cladding, and numerous families live in substandard conditions. This ongoing issue highlights the need for urgent housing policy reforms and stricter safety regulations. We must ensure that such a tragedy never happens again and work towards a fairer, safer, and more equitable society. Like many organisations we will be observing a day of silence across all our media channels on Friday. #Grenfell #NeverForget #HousingEquality #SocialJustice #UKHousingCrisis
