There is AI life beyond automation. The problem is that humans lie in between. That is why the shift from automation to digitalization might take some time.
𝐀𝐈 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐚𝐬 𝐮𝐬𝐮𝐚𝐥. If it is, it will fail to deliver its potential. The big opportunity lies in using AI to change the way companies create, deliver, and capture value. For now, it is primarily an automation play. What needs to happen to take us to the next level❓ Here are some thoughts (article + own). 🟣 𝐃𝐈𝐆𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐙𝐄 𝐕𝐒 𝐃𝐈𝐆𝐈𝐓𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐙𝐄 Businesses can use automation (digitation) and augmentation (digitalization) to take them to AI's promised land of fundamental transformation. What's the difference between the two? ▪️Automation takes the work we did yesterday to repeat it at scale, saving costs while increasing efficiencies. ▪️Augmentation enables us to do the work we couldn't do yesterday and achieve new values and outcomes. The combination of automation and augmentation is the real sweet spot for any #business. Those that prioritize automation and cost-cutting strategies are limited to linear growth, at best. It's game-changing digitalization that will reinvent business models and entire industries. 🟣 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐀𝐈: 𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐑𝐎𝐈? Is there ROI in AI? Or rather, where? Businesses are expecting a lot from AI. Expectations don't match the current state of affairs. 𝘞𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘦 𝘢𝘶𝘵𝘰𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘤𝘦𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘥𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘲𝘶𝘪𝘤𝘬 𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘴𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴, 𝘪𝘵 𝘤𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘢𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘶𝘭𝘭 𝘱𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘰𝘧 𝘈𝘐. 𝘈𝘶𝘵𝘰𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘴𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘺 𝘴𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘦𝘴 𝘣𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘢𝘴 𝘶𝘴𝘶𝘢𝘭. 𝘛𝘦𝘤𝘩𝘯𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘺 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘨𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬 𝘣𝘪𝘨𝘨𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘥𝘪𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘭𝘺. So long as we are stuck in old ways of thinking and business models, the only thing #GenAI will disrupt will be the balance sheet for many (liability section). 🟣 𝐀𝐈 𝐇𝐔𝐌𝐀𝐍 Sadly, we cannot digitise our way to transformation. 𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦 𝐢𝐧 𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐥𝐞𝐭 𝐀𝐈 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬. The irony? The next wave of AI is human-driven. A good first target will be innovating #business and operational models. A lot of the pillars that will cement this shift are techno-social (strategy & business models, talent, culture). It won't happen overnight. There are good signs: CEOs are now involved in AI. As businesses question how things are done today and explore how AI changes how businesses work, can work, and why, maybe new business and operational models will follow? What is sure: It will take time. Humans love talking more about change, than changing. If only we could automate that... Thanks to Osama Elhassan, Ph.D., FIHASI for highlighting the article.
