AWARDS & DISTINCTIONS🏆 Diana Pádua was a doctoral student at ICBAS- Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas Abel Salazar but spent most of her time at #i3S, in the Differentiation & Cancer lab studying the molecular mechanisms governing stem cells in stomach #cancer. It was definitely time well spent because the resulting dissertation was now distinguished with a "Best PhD Thesis" award by the journal 𝘊𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘳𝘴. Congrats! 📰👀👇 #i3Sawards #i3Snews #peopleofi3S #doctoralcommunity #i3Sgraduate #cancerresearch

Shocking Allegations of Research Misconduct at Dana-Farber/Harvard A recent article by Sholto David in Forbes raises serious concerns about potential research misconduct at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) at Harvard University. The article details several instances of published research containing manipulated data, casting a shadow over the integrity of the institution's scientific output. While some of the researchers involved have responded to the criticisms, the article argues that DFCI and Harvard have not taken adequate steps to address these concerning issues. This lack of transparency and accountability is deeply troubling and demands a thorough investigation to ensure the credibility of future research conducted at these esteemed institutions. https://lnkd.in/e6wEUb7U Another article from Nature's concerning integrity of data. https://lnkd.in/eR2js8mU #scienceintegrity #researchmisconduct #DFCI #Harvard

➡ A team of researchers of Instituto de Biofísica e Engenharia Biomédica - Institute of Biophysics and Biomedical Engineering and professors of Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa, with partners from the University of Galway and Politecnico di Torino have just seen their "3BAtwin" Twinning application accepted for funding of 1.5M€ ! Congratulations to all! 💪 ☝ The main goal for this twinning project is to enhance the capabilities of the coordinating entities - IBEB and CIÊNCIAS/ULisboa - by providing them with specific and refined knowledge as well as tools. The aim is to expedite the transition of medical microwave imaging (MMWI) from the research bench to the patient's bedside. As a result, the consortium will address the following MMWI applications in their exploratory research project: Bone osteoporosis and Bone cancer, Brain ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, Breast cancer and metastasized Axillary lymph nodes (3BAtwin). #science #twinning #research #fcul #cienciasulisboa

Great medical paper Sonic hedgehog (Shh) directs early gut patterning via epithelial–mesenchymal signaling and remains expressed in endoderm-derived tissues into the adult period. In human adult gut epithelium SHH/SHH expression is strongest in basal layers, which suggests that SHH may function in the maintenance of gut epithelial stem or progenitor cells. 🏅 Congratulations to Chiara Lago, one of the recipients of the #ibidi Paper Award 2024 in 3️⃣D Cell Culture Research! 🏆 👩🔬 Chiara, a postdoctoral researcher at the Armenise-Harvard Laboratory of Brain Disorders and Cancer at the Università di Trento, Italy, was honored for her first-author publication in #EMBO Molecular Medicine. Her paper, titled "Patient- and Xenograft-Derived Organoids Recapitulate #Pediatric Brain Tumor Features and Patient #Treatments", impressed our external #jury with its innovative approach. 🎓 ⚗ 🔬 Chiara’s work focuses on developing patient-derived organoid (#PDO) models for pediatric brain #cancer, which are crucial for studying tumor biology and testing new #therapies. Her study introduces a novel method for generating PDOs and patient-derived #xenograft organoids (PDXOs) through mechanical cutting, rather than enzymatic dissociation, offering significant advancements in the field. 🎉 Find out more about Chiara and her impactful research here: https://zurl.co/5vzA 🤩 The award was proudly presented by Mario Barlocco of Twin Helix, our esteemed partner in Italy. #congratulations #ibidipaperaward #organoids #embo #cancerresearch #technology #innovation
