🇧🇪 🇧🇷 🌍 Strengthening Economic Ties Through Cooperation Projects 🇧🇷 🇧🇪 🌍 As we anticipate HRH Princess Astrid's economic mission to Brazil in November, it's an opportune moment to highlight the deepening economic connections between Belgium and Brazil, especially through collaborative projects in research, development, and innovation. 🇧🇪🇧🇷 DID YOU KNOW THIS ABOUT THE COOPERATION BETWEEN WALLONIA (BELGIUM) AND BRAZIL? Belgium, particularly the region of Wallonia, is actively engaged in international cooperation projects aimed at fostering industrial innovation. One such initiative is the 34th IraSME Call for international cooperation projects in Research, Development, and Innovation (RD&I), launched by SPWEER and EMBRAPII - Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa e Inovação Industrial. This initiative promotes the development of new products, processes, or technical services between Belgium and Brazil. Brazil's dynamic market is ripe for collaboration, and the upcoming economic mission led by HRH Princess Astrid aims to further solidify the economic ties between Belgium and Brazil. This mission presents an excellent opportunity to explore additional collaborative ventures, investment possibilities, and mutual growth areas between our two nations. With the recent Chatham House speech from Oliver Dowden on economic security this report produced collaboratively by #HEECA and #EECARO could not be more timely. The UK Higher Education sector has long been proactive in this space and is mindful of the opportunities and security risks the globalisation agenda presents. Key next steps needed are: ✅ Moving from a reactive posture to a strategic one. ✅ Ensuring parity of access to freely available resources to help inform and support risk based assessments of international collaborations. ✅ The provision of funding to empower the UK HE sector in meeting this challenge and the support of long standing initiatives in this space. ✅ Design of a professional development pathway to establish an appropriate sector economic security talent pool and enabling staff mobility across the sector. ✅ A national and international architecture of collaboration across academia, government, funding bodies and industry. ✅ Proportionate training resources enabling institutional and thematic contextualisation of content in light of diverse audiences (early career researchers, students, academics, professional services, technicians and senior leaders). We need to enable not disable the UK HE sector and this report demonstrates a strong UK & EU collaboration with recommendations on how we can achieve that. #economicsecurity #exportcontrols #researchsecurity #security #trustedresearch #highereducation
