I am happy to announce that on June 5th, I will be giving a Keynote Lecture at the 7th International Conference of REIACTIS to be held at the University of Montreal (June 4th to 6th, 2024) https://lnkd.in/eZtvnemu My talk will focus on the changing role of the homes and apartments occupied by older people at more advanced ages. Their dwellings are becoming more salient and positively experienced places to live, better enabling their mobility-limited occupants to access their outside worlds. The catalyst is the emergence of gerontechnological innovations relying on digital and sensor technologies, offering these vulnerable older occupants a new category of dwelling connectivity solutions—constituting a paradigm shift—whereby goods, care, services, social supports, information, and leisure activities can be delivered to their dwellings. Because of these new capabilities, their dwellings have become "control centers" dynamically integrated with their outside worlds.

Final Report: Infrastructure Futures for Digital Cultural Heritage The final report for the Infrastructure Futures for Digital Cultural Heritage project is now available to download. This project was led by Professor Jen Ross, with Dr Philippa S. and Professor Melissa Terras as co-leads, and Cate Schofield as project researcher. The project, funded by the Creative Informatics AHRC Creative Cluster programme, involved surveys and workshops to explore a series of speculative scenarios. The scenarios were distilled and reimagined from a literature review and nine expert interviews undertaken in late 2023 and early 2024. The research objective was to get a better understanding of current meanings, priorities, concerns and hopes about digital infrastructure by imagining and collectively scrutinising possibilities for the future. Positive Energy Districts (PEDs) leading to the development of carbon-neutral cities is the focus of an upcoming short postgraduate programme. The programme, developed from several research projects, will run for the first time at the beginning of September. It will provide students with a full week of activities based at our new campus. These activities will include workshops, site visits, lectures, etc related to the development of PEDs and carbon-neutral cities. This will be followed by a further week of online studies. The programme will allow both students and researchers to network and cooperate within an interdisciplinary environment. The teaching staff is made up of researchers from eight universities. As well as Dalarna University, the seven other universities are the University of Lisbon, Portugal; Hochschule für Wirtschaft Zürich HWZ (Zurich University of Applied Sciences), Switzerland; Rīgas Tehniskā universitāte (Riga Technical University), Latvia; Université Savoie Mont Blanc, France; Roma Tre University, The University of Catania and The University of Palermo, Italy. The expected result from the programme is the transfer of essential knowledge to relevant Erasmus+ network stakeholders who are committed to supporting the development of PEDs and carbon-neutral cities. 🔸Inspiration from peers: Urban Logistics and Mobility🔸 Last week we joined the one-day seminar on “Urban Logistics and Mobility” organized by NGB (part of VVSOR) and LNMB in Soesterberg. This seminar is aimed at both practitioners and academics who are interested in the latest developments in OR (Operations Research). Aside from an interesting program, the seminar offers an excellent opportunity to learn from peers in the Dutch OR community. It is always exciting to gain new insights through a mix of presentations from both the business community (Albert Heijn, TNO and University Medical Center Groningen) and presentations on research in the field of urban logistics by professors from various international universities. Especially because we recently saw in one of our projects that distinguishing between route planning in urban and rural areas can yield major savings. Check the VVSOR website for more details about the topics discussed during the individual presentations: https://lnkd.in/eTgAauFt We would like to continue to learn from our peers. Which conference or seminar in the field of logistics applications or Operations Research should we consider attending? #ACTLytics #Ijsselstein #VVSOR #NGB #Urbanlogistics #mobility #seminar #congres #operationsresearch
