On Friday I completed four weeks at the Federal Executive Institute as a participants of Leadership for a Democratic Society. The courses were great and my 77 peers from all across the Federal government were even better. I learned so much from them and feel extremely grateful to them for sharing so much of their experience and wisdom.

It's that time of year. This will be my 4th years as a STEM pen pal for a 6th or 7th grade student. Letters to a Pre-Scientist is a great program. Please consider signing up! UPDATE: we've just extended the open period for an additional week! The position now closes on 7.29. I am looking for a new Chief of our Satellite Analysis Branch. This team provides round the clock decision support for a range of environmental hazards including fire, tropical storms, marine pollution events and volcanic eruptions. The branch and our division are in a period of strategic change and we need a dynamic leader who can effectively develop staff and envision a future for how we continue to support our customers with round the clock analysis and products. Our new chief will also need to work with partners in NOAA, across the country and internationally to ensure we understand and provide for their current and the future needs. It's an exciting opportunity to lead a high profile team of more than 20 staff and to evolve the mission of the branch.   The team uses a mix of high resolution satellite data analysis, meteorology, GIS analysis, and other tools to assist decision-makers across the country and around the world.   We need great candidates to make a great selection! I just got matched with a mentee through NPower. I've done a lot of coaching and mentoring internal to NOAA but this is a chance to work with folks who are earlier in their career. NPower is an NGO dedicated to creating pathways to economic prosperity by launching digital careers for military veterans and young adults from underserved communities. Earlier this week I was honored to spend a day with my NOAA and NASA colleagues at a STEM event hosted by the Aerospace and Aviation program at DuVal High School's Aerospace and Aviation program. I spend most of my time talking to students one-on-one and in small groups. What a great group of kids with some serious aspirations! These teens were impressive - not just in what they want to achieve but in how they presented themselves. I could barely talk to my peers when I was that age and they were were confidently and eloquently presenting their program to a U.S. Congressman. Incredible. #STEM #NOAA #SCIENCE
