If you're considering expanding into property adjusting, it’s important to start with the basics. Property adjusting involves assessing damage to buildings and contents, which requires different skills compared to auto adjusting. Begin by familiarizing yourself with building materials, construction methods, and common causes of property damage like fire, water, and storms. You’ll need to understand how to estimate repair costs accurately, considering both labor and materials. Starting with a solid foundation in these areas is key to your success. For those looking to dive into property claims, I recommend starting your journey with Mathew Allen at AdjusterTV. He covers everything you need to learn for property claims, including Xactimate, Symbility (CoreLogic), scoping, policy interpretation, and more. Lay the groundwork for a successful property adjusting career. P.S. If you are trying to decide betwen auto and property claims drop a comment below saying "coach" and I'll send you a link to schedule a free career coaching call with me or someone who has been in the industry longer than me.

Wow where have them 3 years gone! Bloomsbury Construction Group A post for anyone who’s toying around with the idea of going it alone. I was fortunate to have worked for some proper good companies, but I always wanted to have something to call my own. So for me I needed to have a go. My personal lessons learned along the way: 1. Singing for your supper is tough. Generally, winning work is hard. People will question your business capabilities, but that’s ok. Take a deep breath and give the best account of yourself, if you lose the opportunity then pick yourself up. As long as you act professionally and with integrity you’ll be remembered for the right reasons, and who knows the consultant / client may have something else for you to look at in due course. 2. Follow your gut, early doors we did a project for a bit of a tool. I mean anyone who turns up to a meeting an hour late without an explanation / apology isn’t my type of person. We knew early doors it was wrong for us a business but we continued anyway….never again! Even if you need the work, make sure it’s the right work. A year project which has a toxic atmosphere is not good for any stakeholder or your own health. 3. Be comfortable in being a chameleon, you may have delivered 40 million pound projects blah blah but no one cares….too many people live off previous achievements. The race to PC for smaller businesses is all hands to the pump, roll your sleeves up and pick that broom up. Your team needs to see this! Moreover, especially early into the process you need to be ok in playing multiple roles within the business to meet its needs….which may change daily! 4. CVR’s over everything. Make sure you know how your projects are performing, this is non negotiable. Overall, it’s the best thing I’ve ever done in my working career. Our business is in a good position, and we remain delivering outstanding works with a healthy Forward Order Book. If this post resonates with anyone, please feel free to reach out to me. I know it may take a lot of soul searching to leap out of your comfort zone, but the never knowing what could have been is pony! CG

💡 Tuesday's thought from a Recruiter💡 It's officially construction season in Michigan! Yipee!! If you're unfamiliar with this fun time each spring and summer, it's when all the main roads close for work. 🚧🛣️Tonight, it took me a lot longer than normal to get home because of accidents on top of the construction. 😖 As I was taking the long way home tonight, someone almost hit me. They were obviously super frustrated with our current situation and decided they just couldn't be patient any longer. And then it actually hit me 🤔- construction zones happen in careers or job searches too. Most of the time, we are cruising along, enjoying the benefits of making progress and then with or without warning, things slow way down. I was fortunate enough to be a stay-at-home mom for a couple of years with my daughter way back when. Since re-entering the workforce, I've heard people give the advice, "don't step out of the work force or you will never be able to catch back up." Don't believe the lie! You're journey might look different than you expected, but detours aren't so bad. Sometimes you have the opportunity to put on some music, roll the windows down, and just enjoy the present moment. Maybe you don't have the good fortune of consistently working in your dream job or field of choice for your whole career. Just don't lose heart! Be patient. If you chose to step away or didn't have a choice, detours don't define you. I've encouraged people in the past to seize every moment. On the flip side, there's also time to just be still. Stepping away from our career for any reason can still be rewarding. You might be shocked to one day wake up and find that everything from your past is now fitting together perfectly. Fast forward, my daughter's about to graduate high school. I'm grateful that I have the ability to put my foot on the gas of my career again. And I can see that I'm currently benefiting from all the experiences I've collected along the way. ✨ So for today's thought: Don't be that person in the construction zone that gets frustrated and causes an accident. Detours are just a different pace. Accidents, however, are costly - they take your time and money. Inching along is ok, whether on the road or in your career!

Glenn, why are you posting a random photo of a wall, a hose and some pipes? Because this picture represents the end of a dripping pipe, the mental load of life admin, and much more. You see those two gray pipes sticking out from the vent? One of those has been dripping for the past few years and wasting water. It was one of those jobs that's easy to put off. But, drip, drip, drip, the wet concrete was slowly driving me nuts. The job was taking up space rent free in my mind. Yet, getting the time to start a job, which I might have to get a professional to fix, wasn't easy. When the time came, though, I was able to buy the part, go back and buy another part and the tool I needed to fix it. And the dripping stopped. I've never been so happy to see dry concrete and the job wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. Plus, I now have a new tool. Always a bonus 😀 Ask yourself, what jobs have you got hanging over your head that are like a leaky valve and drip, dripping in your head? Make a list of them. Assess them - can you do them, or do they need a professional? Make the time, or book the professional and start ticking them off. The space doing this will free up in your mind is enormous because the life admin tasks we carry around with us take up way more energy than you give them credit for. So, make that list now and get your mind back. It's like a spa session for your mind. Refreshing! Go on. Make that list now. Your mind will thank you for it. ====> If you liked this and the job you've been putting off is sending emails to your customers, clients or prospects, I'm the professional for that job. Contact me and let's get you consistently staying top of mind and prompting the actions you need to grow your business.

💥Top 5 Mistakes New Roofing Companies Make💥 Starting a roofing business is challenging, especially if it's your first venture. Mistakes are part of the learning curve, but some can be avoided to pave a smoother road to success. 📣 Hiring Mistakes The wrong team can hinder your business's growth: ❌ Avoid hiring those without specific roofing experience—general construction isn't enough. ❌ Steer clear of candidates lacking a strong work ethic. Reliability, diligence, and pride in work are crucial. What to look for: ✔️ Minimum two years of roofing experience ✔️ Verifiable references ✔️ Relevant qualifications 📣 Lack of Market Research Understanding your local market is critical: ✔️ Identify your competition and their offerings. ✔️ Determine demand for specific services. ✔️ Research which roofing products provide quality and reliability. Methods for effective market research include networking, reading industry publications, and exploring online resources. 📣 Insufficient Capital Ensure you have enough funds to cover: 💰 Marketing and advertising 💰 Licenses and permits 💰 Insurance and other initial expenses Running out of capital prematurely can force your business to close. 📣 Neglecting Marketing To thrive, people need to know you exist and believe in your service: ✔️ Develop a compelling website ✔️ Maintain a robust social media presence ✔️ Invest in targeted online advertising, like Google and Facebook ads 📣 Not Offering Warranties Failing to offer warranties can be detrimental. Stand behind your work with at least a five-year warranty to gain customer trust and protect them—and your reputation—should issues arise. Avoid these common pitfalls to better position your roofing business for long-term success. Implement these strategies and watch your company grow! Estate planning is not about being perfect but taking action to get things done. You learn as you take action. Instead of thinking of estate planning as "one and done" . . . think of it as a continual process that evolves with your understanding and repetitive "doing". You want to build your "estate-planning muscles" through action. https://lnkd.in/ezhTPRt4
