💡 What specific strategies bolstered Africa Specialty Risks rapid growth and played a role in its ongoing success? This was the opening question during yesterday's Insurtech Insights panel, titled ‘Unleashing growth through building and scaling ventures’ 🗣 “The advantage of being new is that you can be nimble, you see a demand or need and can work quickly to fulfil it. Often traditional products don’t meet that need.” remarked Mikir Shah, ASR CEO. Mikir went on to say that having trusted partners and a long term horizon approach was also crucial. Noting that one of the most important decisions is choosing the most suitable financial and risk-management backers, which for ASR included Helios Investment Partners and Aon, with all parties needing to share the same goal, commitment level and drive with a cohesive approach. 🗣 Mikir also touched on the importance of building a strong, positive culture at a company. "We look for individuals who align with our beliefs and mission, who possess the appropriate corporate and specialty skill set, and have African expertise". Expediting #commercialization and wide-scale #deployment of #climatetech for #industrial #decarbonization is key to addressing global climate change targets. The Geneva Association's latest report, the first of a two-part series, examines the #barriers to expediting commercial deployment of emerging climate technologies and the #pivotal #role #insurance and #reinsurance #companies can play as both risk managers and investors.    While significant progress has been made with #renewables, most technologies needed for industrial decarbonization, such as #greenhydrogen, #carbonremoval , long duration energy storage remain in the pre-commercialization stages. Among the reasons for this are huge funding gaps, challenges with market readiness, scaling, and scarcity of data on the new, untested risks they pose.    As providers of #riskmanagement solutions and #institutioninvestors, insurance and reinsurance companies can make important contributions to overcoming some of these hurdles.   This first report takes a close look at the climate tech commercialization #landscape and identifies potential #opportunities for key #stakeholders involved in climate tech #development and #financing, to leverage re/insurers' #risk #engineering expertise to #frame and #manage #risks for #mobilizing #capital and #operational aspects of the projects from #demonstration and early deployment #stages.
