The Advertising Code Committee has ruled that MSC Cruises, a major player in the cruise industry, violated several articles of the Sustainability Advertising Code (CDR) and the Dutch Advertising Code (NRC) with its recent advertising campaigns. The decision comes after a complaint filed by Advocates for the Future, FossielVrij NL, and Reclamejagers, which argued that MSC Cruises’ advertisements were misleading and unfair. The complaint focused on various advertisements, including TV commercials, web pages, a Facebook post, and YouTube videos, which made claims about the sustainability of MSC Cruises’ operations. Specifically, the advertisements suggested that the use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) allows for sustainable travel, that LNG is an innovative and cleaner fuel compared to conventional fuels, and that MSC Cruises is committed to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Key Points of the Decision, Specific Violations, Advertiser’s Defence, and Conclusion & Analysis below ⬇ https://lnkd.in/eKYmTcS4 #law #greenwashing #lng #maritime #advertising #cruise

This letter, however, underscores a shift in T&E’s communication strategy on many of the most divisive issues, such as e-fuels, as all stakeholders move away from the period of brinkmanship which defined the previous Commission towards a period of, hopefully rational, implementation.
