#RatanTata Despite carrying the weight of Tata Group on his shoulders, the man always made time for the smallest and most overlooked creatures around him. He wasn’t just a leader; he was a guiding force. Through his actions and the way he lived, he showed us what it means to lead with purpose and heart. His work spoke for itself, but it was who he was as a person that truly left a mark. His example will continue to inspire us, not just in our work, but in how we choose to live our lives. #PurposeDrivenLeadership #ServantLeadership

We say farewell with deep sadness to Ratan Naval Tata, an icon of Indian industry & a symbol of ethical leadership. His death on October 9, 2024, at 86 years old, signifies the conclusion of a period. However, his impact will endure and motivate future generations. Ratan Tata's path was truly remarkable. Starting on the shop floor at Tata Steel in 1961, he went on to redefine leadership in business by turning the Tata Group into a global powerhouse with revenues surpassing $100 billion before his retirement in 2012. During his leadership, the Tata Group became known for trust, integrity, and innovation. His courageous purchases of international brands such as Tetley, Corus, and Jaguar Land Rover not only raised Indian businesses to a worldwide level but also demonstrated his forward-thinking strategy for expansion. Ratan Tata was not only a business leader, but also exemplified the value of prioritizing people, evident in his work to make affordable transportation accessible to millions with the Tata Nano project. In addition to his business acumen, Ratan Tata had a strong dedication to philanthropy. Leading Tata Trusts, India's biggest private-sector charitable institution, he has had a significant impact on many lives through his focus on healthcare, education, and rural development. His efforts at Cornell University, where he graduated, demonstrate his worldwide perspective on enhancing lives through education and research. Ratan Tata was not just a titan in the business world; he was a kind-hearted individual who believed in using his riches for the benefit of society. His memory as a leader with strong morals, care for society, and modesty will always be remembered by those who respected him. Peacefully at rest, Mr. Tata. You have created a world that will be forever different because of your perspective and beliefs. #RatanTata #Guidance #Generosity #Inheritance Tata Group

RATAN TATA VERSUS PAKISTANI ELITE Ratan Tata’s legacy stands in stark contrast to the reality we face in Pakistan, where many of the wealthiest individuals and politicians seem to thrive at the expense of the nation’s well-being. Instead of using their resources to uplift the country, they are more focused on transferring wealth abroad, evading taxes, and manipulating systems for their own benefit. Their actions have led to a cycle of corruption, stagnation, and despair, leaving the country’s potential unfulfilled and its people suffering. While millions struggle with poverty, lack of education, and basic healthcare, these elites continue to hoard wealth, showing little regard for the nation’s future.

"Heard people say this can’t be done. It is your job, to remove those myths and to get things done. In many ways, we have been critical of and saddened by what has and or not has happened in our country. To a great extent, this has been a function of we can’t do this or it can’t be done. Do not grow with a view that something can’t be done and so should not be done. You, in the years ahead, are going to be leaders of this country and shaping the destiny of this country. You look at the world around you, where ideas were born, where individuals started in garages. Where did Microsoft, where did Apple, where did Amazon, where did Google, where did Facebook come from? They came from ideas where people felt something could be done. The technologies that don’t require billions of dollars to establish, they don’t require 100 acres to build. Enterprises that are built on innovation that is in your mind, non-traditional, untried and sometimes risky that make a big big difference, in the world of tomorrow. If you speak or sit next to a Nobel Laureate, he never tells you that he won a Nobel prize, other people tell you. So, let humility be your best defence. They came from ideas that people felt something could be done and that they could make a difference. If you think you cannot make a difference, I’d say you very well, can make a difference, if you so desire. And you shouldn’t nearly consider yourself successful based on prosperity, you gain for yourself, but you should go home at night feeling satisfied if you have made a difference. That difference is something each one of us can make. We will have failures, we will have frustrations but it is the continued commitment that we have to the world around us. My enthusiasm in the new India tomorrow continues to be there, I continue to feel the need to support enterprising young Indian engineers and scientists. And all of us should be very pleased to play this role and need to support this because all of us should be keen to unleash the Indian Tiger, we haven’t done that as yet. So let us all put our hearts and souls behind with the fact that this is going to be the new India of tomorrow." You will always be missed and never forgotten, and will always be motivating young talents who dream to see a better India and thrive for a better humanitarian race. Rest in Peace 🕊️

Remembering Shri #RatanTata Ji - A Visionary Leader and a True Ratan of India. India has lost a true visionary in Shri Ratan Tata Ji, a monumental leader who reshaped India’s business landscape. Ratan Tata Ji was more than an industrialist; he was a mentor and an inspiration to countless professionals, budding entrepreneurs, and students. His philanthropic efforts, donating around 60–65% of his income to charity, made him one of the world's most generous philanthropists. His life's work will continue to guide us, reminding us of the profound impact one individual can have on a nation and the world. https://lnkd.in/g6UBDxVZ

I find it interesting that we celebrate industrialists, but then - as a development community interested in supporting the development of lower income countries - we do oh so little to support the emergence of robust industrial policy in such countries. Industrialists have been key for the progress made in many high and middle income countries (think US econ history, German econ history, British econ history, Chinese econ history, Japanese econ history, S.Korean econ history, Indian econ history...and many many more). But industrialists and industrial policy are in a symbiotic relationship, just like anemone and clownfish. Industrialists cannot succeed without industrial policy (look at how Dangote became Nigeria's prime industrialist, not to mention countless less known ones). We love stories of successful industrialists, just like below, but yet we still do so, so little to support the emergence of robust industrial policies in governments of lower-income countries.

A businessman and an industrialist differ in their focus and impact. A businessman typically engages in commerce, trading goods or services for profit. In contrast, an industrialist not only seeks profit but also builds industries that contribute to economic growth and societal development. Sir Ratan Tata, as an industrialist, went beyond just generating wealth—he played a pivotal role in shaping industries that supported the nation’s progress. His leadership at Tata Group led to the creation of diverse businesses, but more importantly, he fostered a vision of building a society by focusing on long-term sustainability, social responsibility, and community welfare. His contributions went beyond business success; they positively transformed the lives of millions, reflecting his commitment to societal development rather than personal profit alone.

Today, we mourn the loss of an iconic leader, Ratan Tata, a visionary who redefined the business landscape and reshaped Tata Group into a global powerhouse. His legacy extends far beyond awards and accolades, like the Padma Vibhushan, which recognized his unparalleled contribution to industry and nation-building. What made Ratan Tata truly remarkable was his humanity, empathy, and leadership style that transcended profits. In an era dominated by capitalism, he showed the world that real leadership lies in compassion and a deep commitment to solving real-world problems. Whether it was bringing affordable cars to millions or his relentless focus on philanthropy, Tata's impact will echo for generations. He embodied the belief that businesses could—and should—uplift society, proving that success isn't just about balance sheets, but about making a difference where it matters most. Rest in peace, Sir Ratan Tata. You will always be remembered as the leader who led with both heart and mind. And will be an inspiration for many generations to come. 🙏
