Subsurface Utility Mapping at DGT Associates

Subsurface Utility Mapping #SIM  #SUM. Subsurface Utility Mapping involves a considerable effort by our entire team to review old plans and records for the project we undertake and the projects we are considering for new assignments. While many professionals overlook the effort, it is an integral part of our project planning, our budgets, the details needed in our proposals, and our Risk assessments. While the photos of the construction site uncovered from the late 1890s may look much different from today's complex site details, the plans for construction and planning were often very well presented.   This site photo of a water line construction project on August 16, 1898, looks void of equipment and details, but the plans from this era we reviewed were very detailed. The plan and profile of the plans depict the location of the new facilities in addition to the project survey datums. This survey datum information can assist our team in getting insight into estimated depths and locations for the facilities we are tracing.  We often get pushback from potential customers wondering why SUM projects can be expensive. SUM projects would be less costly if those same potential customers provided "As_built" Plans for new installations, accurate horizontal positional information of the new facilities, and information about removed lines and abandoned in-place systems. How many high-resolution trench photos could I expect to find in 2148?  Just assuming I was still interested in SUM in 2148 #CFTA2023 #utilitymapping #campus #gpr #utilitylocating #utility #undergroundutilities  #underconstruction #facilitiesmanagement #highereducation #damageprevention #riskmanagement  #campussafety #mobilemapping  #mappingthefuture #digitaltwin #subsurface #subsurfacesolutions #surveying #survey #mapping #gis  #environment #team
