Qiskit 1.2 is out! All the details are in the release notes (https://lnkd.in/e2jcz-b7), here's the tl;dr: 📈 Tons of performance improvements: Many of the core structures have been moved to Rust, allowing for significant speedups mostly in the construction, manipulation (incl. copy + parameter assignment), and synthesis of circuits. 🛠️ Better compiler quality due to additional of unitary peephole optimization (for optimization levels 2 & 3) and improvements in Sabre. 🔦 generate_preset_pass_manager importance highlight, which is now importable from the top level. Today in QEC on the arXiv https://lnkd.in/gkKHAVtD For simplicity, we often simulate QEC with noise that doesn't vary across the device. But that's not very realistic. So how does performance depend on this variance? Here we looked at this for codes designed for IBM Quantum's heavy-hex lattice.

I just noticed that there is now one less 127-qubit Eagle system in IBM's quantum computer fleet compared to a month ago. I don't keep records of the actual system names, and there are no new entries on IBM's list of retired QPUs since April 30th, so I don't know which system is no longer available. But... using the Internet Archive Wayback Machine, and a snapshot from July 17th, I see that the ibm_cleveland system was available back then but is not available today. Whether it was actually retired but just not added to the retired list or something else is going on is unknown at present. So there are now only 12 Eagle systems in the fleet/rookery. There are still two Heron systems, one with 133 qubits and one with 156 qubits. It has been suggested that maybe the 156-qubit system is actually a Flamingo, but it does say "Heron r2". I recently competed in the IBM Quantum Challenge 2024 Bonus Lab and had the opportunity to test a 50-qubit Variational Quantum Circuit (VQC) on IBM's Kyoto device. We conducted a series of tests comparing the performance of the VQC under two conditions: without Dynamic Decoupling (DD) and TREX (Twirled Readout Error eXtinction) and with DD and TREX. The results were impressive, with both configurations achieving a performance score of 100.000. The graph below illustrates the cost function values across different state indices, showcasing the stability and reliability of the quantum computations. These findings provide concrete evidence of the capabilities of real quantum devices. #QuantumMachineLearning #IBMQuantumChallenge
