In the year 1992 to 2019, the ASIA FOOD EXPO (AFEX) embarked on an extraordinary journey, ready to showcase the latest applications and technologies that would elevate Asia's food and beverage industry on the world stage. However, a sudden and unexpected pandemic swept across the world, causing unprecedented disruptions and challenges for industries worldwide. As the world grappled with uncertainty, the food and beverage industry stood resilient, embracing innovation and adaptability in the face of adversity. As the pandemic's grip on the world finally began to ease, the yearning for normalcy and connection grew stronger, and the food industry was no exception. It was time for AFEX to rise once more, stronger and more resilient than ever before. And now, in the year 2023, the time has come for ASIA FOOD EXPO to reclaim its tradition and embrace the future. As we forge ahead in an indulgent window economy, the AFEX community is more determined to foster trade, build economic relationships, and open new doors to international markets. In today's ever-evolving business landscape, success hinges on innovation, collaboration, and staying ahead of the curve. AFEX2023 presents an unparalleled platform for the food and beverage industry to explore cutting-edge solutions, forge valuable connections, and seize new opportunities in the window market. It is with utmost honor and pleasure that we welcome you all to the 29th ASIA FOOD EXPO (AFEX2023), the International Expo on Food Packaging, Processing and Handling Machinery, Equipment and Technology. We are excited to embark on another remarkable journey together! https://lnkd.in/ebjCCJp8

Australian Wine Triumphs at China Roadshow, Setting the Stage for Growth 🍷 Australian wines made a powerful comeback at the 2024 China Roadshow, with Wine Australia leading the charge. Held from 20-28 August, this trade mission featured 50 exhibitors showcasing over 90 Australian wine brands across Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, and Guangzhou. With more than 2,500 Chinese trade visitors attending, including influential buyers and media, the event marked a key moment in re-establishing Australia’s wine presence in China following the lifting of duties earlier this year. 🍇 Wine Australia’s General Manager, Marketing, Paul Turale, highlighted the overwhelming enthusiasm for Australian wines. The event not only allowed producers to reconnect with Chinese consumers but also sparked optimism for future growth in the region. As Turale noted, the warm reception reaffirms the strong bond between Australian wines and the Chinese market, pointing to the potential for increased export sales and long-term success. 🚀 Looking ahead, Australian wine will continue to build on this momentum, with a strong presence at upcoming events such as the China International Import Expo and ProWine Shanghai in November. As part of a broader market diversification strategy across Asia, Wine Australia aims to solidify its place in China’s competitive wine market through ongoing engagement and targeted marketing efforts. #AustralianWine #WineAustralia #ChinaRoadshow #WineTrade #WineIndustry #WineExport

Through travels for Midi Apéritifs, trade fairs, market visits and overall simply talking to people there’s a lot one can learn. Here are my unsolicited two cents on the current cards our market’s being dealt and how we can work together to create a more viable environment. Some time ago, much needed support was put in place by governments during the pandemic/crisis. Support that is now being charged back. Directly or indirectly through tax/duty raises, to name a few. All this while consumers are spending less/going out less, prices are going up and staff is harder to find. As result, hospitality businesses, who often do not have the liquid assets at hand to cope with these challenges, are forced to ‘sell their soul’ through contracts with big national corporations offering cash/product in return for menu listings/volume/visibility. This kills the backbone of any hospitality concept or business: 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆. As result, staff gets bored as they aren’t incentivized to thrive through creation and bars/restaurants/caterers are faced with yet another challenge: 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 & 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁 or facing 𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 & 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲. This never-ending vicious circle is good for: absolutely no one. While I'm aware this is not the ✨one magical solution✨ that resolves all the above, I believe it is in everyone’s interest to start thinking longterm more. 𝗕𝗶𝗴 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 🤝🏼 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹/𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘀 Drinks menus, combining nationally recognized brands whilst also championing local/smaller producers. It’s something we’ve been preaching since day one with Midi in stead of trying to compete with the Goliaths. Big brands need their challengers and we need them. 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. Think about it. & Are there other solutions? >Buckwheat Spritz for reference, by Zoe Burgess for Julie's London. Featuring Olmeca Altos tequila (Pernod Ricard..), Midi Liquid Sunset, sparkling wine & soda water.

Day 1 of judging Retail Council of Canada's 2024 Grand Prix New Product Awards is done. I get a mini-break in sunny #Montreal before another full day of judging. Key takeaways from Day 1: * Ready-to-eat/serve category keeps expanding; * We're seeing interesting cheese-based savoury products; * Bite-sized portions of classic dishes like eggs offer consumers a quick, convenient, & on-the-go dose of protein; * Global flavours evoke nostalgia in an increasingly multicultural Canada; and * Manufacturers are keen on meeting their sustainability goals either by increasing the recycled content of packaging or through carbon offset programs.
