Today is World Environment Day - the United Nations day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action to protect our environment. If you've ever wondered why our charity t-shirts cost a little more than those of other charities, or maybe you've wondered why we use bunting or re-usable banners rather than big balloon arches at our events, it is because we've put a little more thought into the impact that we as a charity are having on our planet. For far too long charities that are doing good in some ways, are also causing harm in other ways by printing t-shirts at the lowest possible cost without concern for who is making those t-shirts and where they will end up afterwards (some charity t-shirts are produced to such low quality standards that they can't even be used for textile recycling and end up in landfill). We've been on the search for truly eco-friendly balloons because who doesn't love the brightness and joy a balloon can bring? Our planet doesn't like it. Even biodegradable balloons can last a considerable time and cause harm to animals in the meantime. We ended up having to conclude that there is no such thing as a truly eco-friendly balloon. When creating awareness items, we take time to think about what items are most useful and needed rather than creating plastic disposable items that will end up in landfill. We aim to use suppliers that share our ethical values.
