The FAA controllers handbook gives restrictions on how many numbers and instruction a controller can issue to an aircraft in a single radio transmission. In their efforts to be more efficient, many controllers exceed the restriction and talk way too fast, often resulting in pilots asking for a repeat of the instructions. Say it once, say it clearly, say it right.
CLEARED TO LAND / “CLER'DLAN" In Radiotelephony, if we speak too slowly there is a risk of traffic build-up and delays. If we speak too quickly the risk of misunderstanding increases. There is no benefit to speaking quickly and then having to ‘Say Again’. Enunciating / speaking clearly is also an essential part of clear, safe R/T. What are your thoughts about this recording from LAX (Los Angeles, USA)? According to the transcript, at 0:26 in the video the controller says: "Fedex 3745 Heavy, you are number 1. Runway 25L. Cleared to land. Caution wake turbulence". If you close your eyes, do you hear "Cleared to land" ? credits: VASAviation #aviationsafety #radiotelephony #faa #icao
