Excellent gradireland Breakfast News event today on the topic of graduate recruitment under the title "Have we lost it (and them)? Early Career strategist Sinéad D'Arcy pointed out that it's no wonder GenZs are confused about work: aren't we all with the pace of change and advance of AI. She advises leveraging graduates entrepreneurial traits, so they become intrapreneurial, adding: "organisations are being challenged as the expectations of grads have changed – there is space for innovation and change in the process and for looking at what can we do differently. Sinead was in conversation with Brian O'Mahony of Roffey Park Institute. Kevin Hannigan of HPC focused on grad programmes with An Post's Gareth McLouglin and Applegreen's Katie Dunne where the emphasis is on experiences with the employer throughout the recruitment process, pacing development, providing mentorship and job shadowing opportunities as part of their graduate programmes. Nicky Garcea of Cappfinity shared that 78% of job seekers had ghosted an employer and spoke about the importance of psychological safety for candidates and new grad employees. She recommends that employers focus on these 3 aspects in designing effective graduate programmes: Remove Barriers, Clarity & Transparency and Provide Authentic Moments. 📅 Monday, 29th October 📅 Calling all Birmingham based employers who work with early talent and U18s! This October, we're hosting multi-employer, rotational Work Insights programmes, where students are hosted by a different Financial Services employer each day. On Mon 29th Vicki & Phoenix Group is generously opening up their doors to other firms to see how it works first hand. Why multi-employer? 💡 Students see a fuller breadth of roles in the sector, to help them navigate their best route into a career in finance. 💫 Employers wanting to move away from a work experience that is informal, relies on 1-1 shadowing and/or is just for friends+family, have an easy stepping on point to try a different approach. If you want to see first hand about how we're turning work experience on it's head, get in touch with Rachel Morar (If you don't work in Financial Services, you are still very welcome to attend and see the Work Insights model in action!) #DiscoverFinanace #workexperinece #workinsights #socialmobility #nationalinclusionweek https://lnkd.in/e-nk3fs2

Dear Young Professionals! 👨🏻💼👩🏽💼 I've noticed a lot of engagement from Sixth Form/College students on my previous post, and it's truly inspiring to see your eagerness and ambition. It got me thinking – why not share some personal insights that might help you on your journey? Back in my Sixth Form days, I was where you are now: ambitious, unsure, and ready to take on the world. But let me tell you, opportunities didn’t just come knocking; I had to build the door first! Here's how I landed internships at J.P. Morgan, PwC, JLL and Allsop LLP: 1. I Embraced Visibility 👀 I put myself out there. Networking was my second language – I was constantly reaching out on LinkedIn, attending every event I could, and making sure I was seen and remembered. It’s not just about showing up; it's about making an impression so that when your application lands on their desk, they remember your enthusiasm, drive, and it helps if you’re the only one in the room with a man-bun (at the time) 😅. 2. I Had the Audacity 🙋🏻♂️ If you don’t ask, you don’t get! I wasn’t afraid to ask for what I wanted. Yes, it took some courage, and let's be honest, sometimes it felt like I was overstepping. But guess what? It mostly worked out. I secured shadowing opportunities, had numerous coffees with people in my desired industry and even internships, like the one at JLL – all because I dared to ask my now-mentor. Most professionals have been in your shoes; they understand and are often more than willing to lend a hand. So…ASK! 3. I Was Prepared 🫡 At 16/17, I wasn't entirely sure about what I wanted to do– I was leaning towards investment banking at JP Morgan. But regardless, I stayed ready for any possible conversation. A big shoutout to my economics teachers for pushing me to read the news every morning. Initially awful, but soon, it turned into something I genuinely enjoyed. Staying informed made those intimidating conversations with seasoned professionals more manageable, even with my (lovely) South East London accent 😁🧐. I'm not just here sharing my story – I'm here to be a part of yours. If you're navigating similar paths or have questions, don't hesitate to reach out. I'm more than happy to share insights, provide guidance, or just lend an ear. Just Ask! #FutureLeaders #YouthEmpowerment #CareerJourney #Networking #StayPrepared #AmbitionToFruition #FutureLeaders #YoungProfessionals #SocialMobility #CareerJourney
