News: IChemE Fellow and new member of UK parliament Chris McDonald has spoken of his goal to unite the worlds of engineering and politics in his opening speech to parliament. The former CEO of the Materials Processing Institute (MPI), Chris was recently elected MP for Stockton North in North East England and has been appointed as an assistant in the department for energy security and net zero. In his speech, he acknowledged his role in the re-establishment of the Ashok Kumar Fellowship, a collaboration between IChemE and POST, UK Parliament to promote understanding between engineers and parliamentarians, and spoke proudly of Stockton's industrial heritage. Well done to him. Good to see an engineer in parliament. Alas it isn't me, as it's something I've been interested in but got stuck at local government level.
