Happy World Water Day! In 2024, the World Water Day campaign is led by the UN-Water Expert group on climate and water. The theme of World Water Day is Groundwater: Making the Invisible Visible. The theme aims to highlight how important groundwater is to our environment. Here are a few facts: - Groundwater contributes to around half of all our drinking water. - Groundwater provides 40% of water for irrigated agriculture. - Communities that don't have access to safe water look to groundwater as an alternative source of drinking water. 🌊Citizen scientists of Kent have been hard at work for the last three years recording the health of our rivers, collecting water samples and testing water quality. Many samples, especially in the Stour, have detected nitrate and phosphate concentrations higher than acceptable UK and EU standards. Sadly, many of Kent’s rivers are in poor ecological condition, and so collaboration between farmers, landowners, local authorities, and environmental organisations is vital to turn things around. In the environmental impact assessment, the most affected aspects were human health, followed by climatic change, resources, and the ecosystem quality came last. In all four of the above categories, the influence of the photovoltaic cell production phase was determined to be dominant.

Stoked to have had the opportunity to contribute to my first scientific report. The report focuses on the impacts of Cyclone Gabrielle on marine ecosystems in the Hawke’s Bay and Gisborne regions of New Zealand. It underscores the importance of understanding the complex interactions between extreme weather events, sediment transport, and marine ecosystems. The report highlights the need for proactive measures to mitigate the impacts of such events and address long-term issues like increased sedimentation in New Zealand's marine environments.
