It has been interesting so far to listen to today's EFRAG - Annual 2023 Annual Conference - European Corporate Reporting - Two Pillars for Success. The attendees and presenters are clearly bright and capable professionals and practitioners. However, I think it was very wise of EU Commissioner for Financial services, Financial Stability, Financial Services and the Capital Markets Union (Mairead McGuinness) to direct EFRAG to prioritise their work to focus on the implementation of the sector-agnostic ESRSs. Even by looking at the makeup of the conference attendees, they are not ready for sector-specific ESRSs. In my experience in supporting the development of various sector-specific standards, requirements, and processes, it can be challenging working with some industry representatives (i.e., there are lots of stick-in-the-mud types). However, unless the industries you are trying to influence or regulate are genuinely represented/participating, you will miss out on the most important aspect... "buy-in". Not to mention fully understanding limitations, opportunities, and areas to support innovation. No one knows an industry more than those who work in it. #esginvesting #esgreporting #esg

🎙️ Eurosif's Executive Director, Aleksandra Palinska, was recently interviewed by our member organisation, Swiss Sustainable Finance (SSF), and gave her views on the current state of #sustainablefinance in the EU and Switzerland as part of their '10 Companions of SSF' series. 💬 "The EU’s sustainable finance agenda has resulted in a wide range of standards, tools and requirements that aim to foster transparency, incorporate sustainability into risk management and reorient capital flows towards sustainable and transition-supporting investments. Certain rules are still a work in progress and/or in the process of being implemented. I attended the annual LMA export finance seminar last week and here are my 5 key takeaways: 1. Energy transition is not just a buzzword, it is the driving force of the market and the future of export finance 2. ECAs need to adapt and innovate to support the global green agenda, while balancing their local, domestic mandates and interests 3. Standardisation is good, but not enough. We need more bespoke and flexible solutions from ECAs (and lenders) to finance complex and diverse projects 4. Export finance is resilient and recovering, with SACE leading the pack as the most active ECA in 2023 5. LMA continues to provide valuable guidance and updates on export finance documents, covering topics such as untied lending, sovereign debtors, and buyer credit agreements #lma #loanmarkets #exportfinance #energytransition #allenovery
