When it comes to climate-smart health, there’s no time to wait and debate. Too many of those most at risk from climate change-driven disasters that have negative impacts on health live in low- and middle-income countries. Together with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, U. of London, Mott MacDonald, the UK Health Security Agency and Wolfe Global , FHI 360 has developed a policy brief that outlines key steps that communities, policymakers, health professionals, and researchers and academics must take to address pressing health inequities around #ClimateChange-driven disasters. bit.ly/3U9kk2S #WorldEnvironmentDay

Local health departments (LHDs) play a crucial role in preparing for, responding to, and recovering from public health emergencies and disasters and, as such, are on the frontlines of the fight against the negative health impacts of climate change. As climate change is a complex issue, a comprehensive strategy that engages nontraditional partners, like Health in All Policies, is needed. NACCHO, with support from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, has created a new resource ‘‘A Health in All Policies approach to addressing the health impacts of climate change’. In this resource, three local health departments —the Boston Public Health Commission, the Pima County Health Department and the City of New Orleans Health Department —discuss how they use Health in All Policies to address the impacts of climate change on their communities. Good to see WHO focus on the big things in life that affect public health with simple pragmatic solutions that work and deliver huge impact globally.
