This feature improves the end-user experience by not having to remember two separate passwords and diminishes the need for admins to manage the local account password. The day has finally arrived! Platform SSO for macOS is now officially in Public Preview! There's more to come, but just to get your started, today we released: * Microsoft Entra Join for macOS. * Three new authentication methods, all configurable via MDM: 1) Passwordless authentication using Secure Enclave. 2) Passwordless authentication via smart cards. 3) Password synchronization with local accounts.

Intune welcomes SSO on macOS

We have been talking about it for months, we have conducted a lengthy private preview, and now it is available for everyone to use. (The public preview is here with full support; it is not feature complete, as mentioned in the article, we will be adding more and more functionalities.)

SSO for macOS is available in public preview with Microsoft Entra ID. Platform SSO is an enhancement to the Microsoft Enterprise SSO plug-in for Apple devices that makes usage and management of Mac devices more seamless and secure.

Tried it, and I've set this up the way it's supposed to be, and followed the instructions, it follows the same process fine, right now I'm testing password but want to try the passkey features next. The experience for me at least is I get the notification and register; it prompts me just fine as I enter my local pw (not my Entra pw). The web company portal UI shows up and asks me to wait to register it with Entra, so far so good. Then the Entra ID prompt shows up with of course the company portal UI and I add my Entra creds, but it fails. It does not take the Entra pw to sync it back. So, I log into the CP app which you shouldn't have to do, but I'm anything at this point, I log out of SSO leave the notification prompt open sign in and voila it works. Reboot and checked the token and it's still green and good to go. Now another thing is I'm still getting the register prompt even after all of this. I clicked register and now the notification is gone. I realize it's in public preview now, so I want to help. This is not the experience we want; we want the notification, follow the rest of the process and be done. I know we'll get there but wanted to tell my finding so far. Going to try it again and see and BTW, it's the latest CP app.
