🎭✈️ Navigating the Arts Landscape: Lessons from Flight 401 ✈️🎭 I often draw parallels between aviation and the arts industry, and one of my go-to examples is the story of Flight 401. In this scenario, the entire flight crew became preoccupied with an indicator light that was not lit, only to discover later that the lightbulb had burnt out. While the team fixated on this seemingly minor issue, the autopilot was inadvertently turned off, resulting in a tragic crash. The crucial takeaway from this tale is the importance of always being aware of who is focusing on what and not allowing a small issue to divert everyone's attention. In the arts, as in aviation, there are daily situations where this lesson could make a significant difference. In the aftermath of the crash, guidelines and regulations were overhauled to prevent such tragedies. Similarly, in the arts industry, we encounter situations every day that could benefit from applying this lesson. It serves as a reminder to remain vigilant, prioritize our focus on the broader picture, and avoid being consumed by isolated challenges that may distract us from the the path towards artistic excellence. Teamwork and communication are key. Having a plan and sticking to a process...that is lifesaving. In aviation, it's ANC...Aviate, Navigate, Communicate.... In that order. Over the past 20 years we had the luxury of Aeromedevac from vicinity of the POI. We wont have that in our next war. Practice and rehearse CASEVAC between your CCP and AXP which may be 5-7 km (or more) from the FLOT. How will you move your patients to the AXP? What tools and resources do you need?

The Healthcare Industry, especially its Surgical Subspecialties, has modeled its safety and quality strategies after the Aviation Industry since before I became a physician. With my Surgical Ethicist hat on, I am considering how mistakes and complications are handled in the Healthcare Industry, in light of Alaska Airlines CEO Ben Minicucci's response to the "complication" its 737 Max Boeing Aircraft passengers recently and publicly suffered. I am incredibly impressed with Minicucci's expression of apology, as well as his acceptance of shared accountability with Boeing and the FAA. Despite distinct differences between the Healthcare and Aviation Industries--and our complications--I am pausing to reflect on what I can learn from Minicucci. How can what I learn favorably impact my patient care delivery? How can these lessons favorably impact care delivery and complication management for the Healthcare Industry? I have lots of thoughts about this! What are yours?

I haven’t made a video in a while so it’s not perfect, this was a AOG event and I had to move quickly to insure the customer made it flight. Thought I’d share the internal operation of this cabin seat. ✔️ One correction I’d like to mention is that the cable im speaking about is what initializes all the functions on this seat in regards to movement. All of these components are all spring loaded and put a large amount of strain in that cable that’s one tough cable hats off to the engineers ! So neat to see the design in motion. Boston-based Northeast Airline's fleet of ten Vickers Viscount 789D were rarely photographed, especially in color. This was partially because during the relatively short time NEA flew the pioneering British turboprop (roughly 1958-64) there were not too many airliner photographers out there shooting with Kodachrome color film! Northeast likely bought the type largely as a replacement for its Convair 240's and Douglas DC-6B's in operation in 1958. The aircraft, like "N6594C," seen here at Philadelphia in late 1960, mostly served NEA's routes in the northeast region but also saw brief use on the long-struggling carrier's service to Florida. Speaking of financial struggles they were the primary reason Northeast began selling off their only five year old Viscount fleet in 1963. The airline itself at that point had less than a decade to survive (ultimately being merged into Delta in 1972). Please feel free to repost this link. Interested in legendary Pan Am?
