We recently delved into project delivery methods in one of my #PMBE program classes with Dr. Elmira NezamiFar, PhD, MCIOB, PMP, where a guest lecture by Mo Ettehadieh, P.Eng, MRICS, Q.Arb, a professional engineer, arbitrator and Senior Consultant from #METTKO, sparked my interest in Integrated Project Delivery (#IPD) and Progressive Design Build (#PDB). It was fascinating to gain insights from someone who works with #lean principles and values, which aligns perfectly with our program's focus at #TMU. IPD prioritizes #collaboration, breaking down traditional silos between design, construction, and ownership. This creates a more integrated team environment focused on achieving key goals like faster project completion and higher return on investment. Imagine a construction project where everyone works together seamlessly – that's the power of IPD! PDB offers a #stagedapproach, combining the benefits of Design-Build with early contractor involvement seen in IPD. This method optimizes constructability, cost, and schedule. An owner selects a qualified design-builder who collaborates on design development. Once a design is agreed upon, the design-builder finalizes the design and construction. While IPD and PDB offer promising advantages, their widespread adoption in Canada remains to be seen. Can these methods overcome challenges in procurement regulations and traditional mindsets? As a future project manager, I'm eager to see how IPD and PDB evolve. Further exploration of implementation strategies and collaborative tools is crucial. I am excited to share that I’ve completed ‘Construction Management Foundations,’ a Project Management Institute (PMI) credential course by Jim Rogers! I learned valuable insights into modern construction practices, including ADPM (Advanced Delivery Project Management), integrated project delivery, and lean productivity methods. This course can also be an excellent resource for staying ahead in the evolving construction industry in Canada and the US! #constructionmanagement.

Good communication is central to a project manager’s role. It needs careful thought and planning, particularly in the digital age when information travels at the click of a mouse. It’s no coincidence that a breakdown in communication is often cited as one of the principal reasons for project failures. Plangrid and FMI Corporation reported on how over 600 firms in the Built Environment industry dealt with communication during projetcs: " Rework caused by poor communication in the US construction industry was forecasted to cost US$ 17 billion per year" How have been communicating with your team?
