What do you do if you work at the Institut für Windenergiesysteme (LUH) and you want to travel to a scientific wind energy conference such as Torque 2024? Right, you travel by train. So we do 😎. We is Felix Prigge, Basem Rajjoub and A.Wasay Khan. Looking forward to arrive in Florence tomorrow morning. However, there is room for improvements at railway companies to make the decision to travel by train easier, as literally NOTHING worked out as originally planned: - Local train from home to the office in the morning cancelled, took the next one 30 min later. Doable. - Train from Hanover to Munich cancelled, without a message, looked like train did not exist, even in the app. Bad communication. Took the next train more than 1 hour later. Not doable without planning tons of time for changing the train - which we fortunately did. However, less time for a fine Bavarian dinner… Not so nice, but still somewhat ok. - Nightjet from Munich to Florence: Couchette replaced by a seat wagon. Curious how comfortable and relaxing the journey is going to be. Will potentially report on that tomorrow. However, that is unreasonable. I may prepare with some Bavarian beer for the night. The lesson learned is - again, as last year: Plan enough time for changing trains and take the time of an international business travel by train as an adventure and an invaluable team building event, which it basically is. Anyways, please, Deutsche Bahn and ÖBB-Personenverkehr AG, improve your services. I fear this is not the way we can convince people to change from cars and planes to trains.
Let the journey begin! See you in sunny Firenze at the #Torque 2024 conference in two days. #sustainabletravel

Leaders will be focused on the here and now, hour by hour, day by day to the finish line - Vendée Globe 2024: What logically can be considered the Vendée Globe title duel between Charlie Dalin (MACIF Santé Prévoyance, 1st) and Yoann Richomme (PAPREC ARKEA, 2nd) continues unabated in the trade winds. The two rivals are heading north towards the infamous Azores high pressure system, which they should reach within 48 hours, a substantial area of light winds which really forms the last big weather obstacle standing between them and the Bay of Biscay and the finish line off Les Sables d'Olonne.

Memories are something Las Vegas is great at removing. Or at least imploding. In most parts of the country, buildings constructed in the 1950s would not be considered historic or noteworthy. But in my town, the original casinos that dotted the Las Vegas strip during the early days of the late 1940s - 1959s were historic. And that period of time was the “old days” around here! The other day the last icon of that era came down in two large clouds of dust. The Tropicana was reduced to crushed concrete in order to clear the space for the new Oakland As stadium. Vegas has morphed over these many years any number of times. And now we have become the hottest sports market in the country! Sorry Dallas, New York, LA, and any place else thinking it’s them. And with the As we’ve gained the Tri-fecta in pro sports. Next up will be qn expansion NBA team. And if you count the UFC as a major sport, then we will end up with five major sports franchises. And all we will be huge successes whether winning or not. We will miss the Trop but look forward to the continued evolution of our town and the changing skyline that goes along with it. #lasvegas #tropicana #evolution #raiders #lasvegasas #baseball #ufc #implosion
DROP THE TROP: In 22 seconds the Rat Pack-era Tropicana’s two hotel towers were reduced to rubble, in part, to make way for the Athletics’ planned $1.5 billion Las Vegas Strip ballpark. READ & SEE MORE: lvrj.com/post/3185880
