The UK rail industry continues to lose sight of the customer with the move below by LNER. It removes an affordable walkup, flexible and refundable fare type. Previously what LNER has done others have followed, also remembering that LNER are technically owned by the government! Not mentioned in the article is a new '70min fare' which provides flexibility within that period - baffling to most travellers. "simplification"? Long distance rail is moving towards airline style fixed advance ticketing....

9moSo the response to scrapping an "outdated" fare is to replace it with a new operator only fare which people wont understand. Which, by the way, would bring more money for LNER who won't now have to revenue share with other operators on all or part of the route, convenient hey? Instead why not scrap the anytime fare on this route and have the Off-Peak as the ceiling fare without any restrictions (as per what Scotrail have done to great success in Scotland). Baffling, and as you mention, out of touch with what the travellers really want!
