🎬 Why Under Promising and Over Delivering Is a Film Production Game-Changer In the dynamic world of film production, managing client expectations is not just about meeting deadlines—it's about creating a memorable, trust-building experience that leads to more business and an impeccable reputation. Here’s why embracing the philosophy of "under promising and over delivering" is essential for every film producer: 1. Builds Unshakeable Trust - When you deliver more than what was expected, clients trust you not just with the current project but for future collaborations as well. 2. Enhances Your Reputation - Word spreads fast in our industry. Become known as the producer who always adds value beyond the agreed terms, and watch as more clients seek you out. 3. Reduces Stress - By setting more achievable benchmarks, your team can work without the constant pressure of hitting overly ambitious targets, leading to better creativity and productivity. 4. Increases Client Satisfaction - Satisfied clients are the best marketing tool. They don’t just come back; they bring others with them because of their excellent service experience. 5. Creates Memorable Experiences - Going beyond the call of duty makes your service standout. It’s these experiences that clients remember and share stories about. As competition in film production grows, so does the need for differentiation. By consistently exceeding expectations, you don’t just deliver a project; you deliver a statement of your brand’s commitment to excellence and reliability. 🤝 Are you ready to transform your approach and ensure your projects not only meet but exceed expectations? The difference between a strategy RFP and a film RFP? One of them asks you for free work. As we’ve been talking more about Faltrego's research and strategy services, I’ve been grateful and fortunate enough to receive a handful of strategy RFPs 🙏 And with years of responding to film RFPs, I’ve noticed an enormous difference: Strategy RFPs ask for: 👍 your capacity to deliver on time and to budget (costed project plan) 👍 examples of previous projects Film RFPs, in addition to the above, ask for: 🚩 your ideas and creative concepts 🚩 research and references for your creative vision 🚩(sometimes) film awards won Strategy RFPs are broadly reasonable. Film RFPs are increasingly less so. There, I’ve said it. - - - - A few additional NBs: - I know those who consider asks for project plans to be unreasonable too, as scheduling is also paid work. - Seeing the numbers allocated, film project budgets are too low and under-costed compared to strategy given the major expenses incurred with filming. - RFPs are often titled ‘briefs’ but they are not briefs. I’d love to continue the conversation in the comments. Who’s work comes from proposals in response to RFPs (competitive) versus being non-competitively commissioned for the work? 👇👇👇

In the high-stakes world of film production, here's an observation that could save your next project from disaster. In the film industry, promises are made and often broken, leading to lost opportunities and tarnished reputations. But what if the secret to success is as simple as setting realistic expectations and then exceeding them? Observing various projects, I've noticed that the teams that adopt the principle of under promising and over delivering consistently outperform those who do the opposite. This approach not only secures trust but also surprises and delights clients, leading to more referrals and repeat business. It’s a strategy that turns average producers into sought-after partners. Think about your last project: Did you over promise and struggle to deliver, or did you manage expectations wisely? What strategy has worked best for you in maintaining client satisfaction?

🤝 How to Get the Most Out of Your Video Production Agency 📽️ Working with an external agency to create a film can be both exciting and nerve-wracking. The key to a successful collaboration? It’s all about balance—knowing when to hold tight and when to let go. Here are 3 essential tips to maximize the value from your agency partnership: 1️⃣ "Tight-Loose-Tight" Approach Start with a clear and detailed briefing, then give your agency creative freedom during production, and finally, tighten up again in post-production. This balance ensures the best results. 2️⃣ Trust Built on Tangible References Don’t just rely on briefings and scripts. Have a reference film that captures the emotion and impact you want your audience to feel. It serves as a shared language between you and your agency. 3️⃣ Understand Your Filmmaker’s Vision Ask your filmmakers what they personally want to convey with your project. Filmmaking is deeply personal, and understanding their vision ensures they’ll pour their heart into making your film a success. At 1Camera, we believe that the best films come from solid mutual trust. Every project we’re proud of has been a 50-50 collaboration with our clients, and it all starts with open, transparent communication. 💬 How do you ensure a strong partnership with your agency? Delivering a project is like making a movie, and I think there are things to be gained by adopting some structure from movies. Movies can be thought of has having two people in charge: The producer and the director. The producer is in charge of things like money, timelines, resources, keeping it on track, all that sort of "structural" stuff, the "how". The director on the other hand has the creative control, the "what". They are on set every day, giving specific direction to the actors, as well as to costume, set design, editing, all that kind of stuff around the end product. I think in projects in the business world we usually have a great "producer" in the form of the Project Manager, but it seems like the "director" position is weirdly split up. Various entities in the project (analogous to actors, costume, set design, etc) having to somewhat figure out their own things without overall guidance, other than a vague "collaboration" mandate. I think this is a spot where movies have the better structure. Thoughts? Do you ever wish you had a clearer hierarchy and owner for "creative" decisions?
