NDIS reforms are here. But are we listening to the right voices? As an #NDISSupportCoordinator, I've seen firsthand the impact of policy changes on those who need support most. The latest reforms aim to improve the system. Yet many disability advocates feel left out of the conversation. My experience with Ability Homes Australia has taught me this: Effective reform requires true collaboration. Here's how we can bridge the consultation gap: 1. Create inclusive feedback channels 2. Host community roundtables 3. Implement a "lived experience" advisory board 4. Provide plain language summaries of proposed changes 5. Extend consultation periods Remember: Those affected by policy should shape that policy. What's your take on improving NDIS consultation? #NDIS #DisabilityInclusion #NDISReform #Colloboration #AbilityHomesAustralia

🚨 #UrgentAction required to secure the future #4aBetterNDIS The NDIA’s approach to pricing is undermining the ability of registered providers to deliver quality, sustainable disability services and is undermining NDIS reform. Not only does the new definition of #HighIntensity supports prevent claiming for behaviour support, the review did not increase prices for Level Two and Three support coordination and therapy supports for the fifth consecutive year. 👉 The future of disability services is in your hands. Contact your federal MP today and push for immediate action to protect the NDIS. Act now! https://lnkd.in/gh3gxgkr #NDIS #DisabilitySupport #SupportCoordination #ProviderChallenges

Only 4 months ago (the day AFTER the NDIS review was released) We were told "NDIS is on track to sustainable" it says so on the NDIA website!! and the data shows this too! stop the propaganda! Only 3 years ago you Mr Bill Shorten were strongly advocating AGAIST almost identical changes being made! as was Mr Bruce Bonyhady! we've got the receipts all of the web, submissions, on your website when you were Shadow Minister (and a bloody good one at that) you have betrayed the disability community and are turning your back on everything you stood for along side us in 2021! We haven't forgotten, and most of us no longer trust you or the NDIA. If the goal was to build trust in the system again you have FAILED miserably. you didn't listen, you didn't hear us, and none of this is to make anything better for People with Disability. I keep getting told "stop complaining and suggest solutions..." We have solutions but you won't allow us to have a voice to tell you, you don't even resolve our direct complaints! And of the 10,000 "submissions" you claimed to consider, but only cherry picked through to fit your predefined agenda... nothing you are changing in this bill is fixing anything we want fixed, nothing reflects the issue we expressed. the strategic legislative approach you've taken shows you've spent the last 18 mths proactively creating work arounds so as to avoid the inevitable pushback you anticipated and to creative ways to repurpose and remarket the already rejected changes and enforce them. centralized decisions, oversight and control for you. reduce autonomy, independence and rights for participants... #ndis #ndisreview #ndisbill https://lnkd.in/g6dTv6uB

The NDIS industry deserves technology that is purpose-build and disability led. The industry continues to grow and become more nuanced, meaning the requirement for systems that cater to the specific needs of NDIS providers is only becoming more important.

NDIS Minister Bill Shorten announced a public consultation on draft lists of NDIS Supports, detailing what will and won’t be funded through the scheme. This aims to provide clarity and strengthen the NDIS. The lists, based on current practices, will be transitional until a formal rule is agreed upon. Minister Shorten said this move is to help participants make informed decisions and transition to more flexible budgets. The consultation, part of broader NDIS reform, seeks to clear up confusion and deliver better outcomes for Australians with disabilities. Public consultation is open until 18 August 2024. Feedback is encouraged to ensure the final lists reflect the needs of participants. The NDIS has released a series of interviews with Bill Shorten to dispel some of the myths and rumours about the NDIS Amendment Bill. According to the Bill: “The legislative changes will ensure a better experience for all Australians with disability, their families and carers. The changes will make it clearer for people with disability to know whether they are eligible for the NDIS or if they are better supported by another system. They will support a better early intervention pathway for: - people with psychosocial disability -children under 9 years old who have developmental delay or disability”. Among the changes is a new definition of NDIS support based on the Convention on the United Nations Rights for People with Disability (CRPD): “If adopted, the proposed parliamentary amendment will replace the definition of NDIS support currently in the to clarify it and make it more accessible. Instead of making reference to specific articles, the definition now requires the support to implement any of Australia’s obligations under the Convention on the Rights for People with Disability". What are your thoughts on the NDIS Amendment Bill? #ndis #ndisprovider

Disability employment supports are once again a significant focus in the budget. It's essential that qualified professionals, trained to provide effective support to participants, are utilised. WorkCover Queensland's Table of Costs guidelines for return-to-work (RTW) services outline the specific roles that allied health professionals play in the RTW process and what can be charged in each situation. If the NDIS aims to control costs, adopting similar insurance principles could be a beneficial approach. As a professional, demonstrating experience in external case management, vocational assessments, job seeking preparation, and placement services is crucial. These skills are core components of a Rehabilitation Counselling degree, but not all allied health professionals acquire them through their degrees. This is why I am a member of CDAA and ASORC. Finally, don’t assume the title of a profession equates to specific skills—double-check their skill set. Conversely, don't assume someone lacks skills based on their title—verify their expertise.

The Australian Government is providing a further $468.7million over five years to support people with disability and get the NDIS back on track through key measures announced as part of the 2024–25 Budget. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gu5RtTsz

MORE wasted unchecked money on things that WE DIDNT ASK FOR and hasn't evolved from codesign!! WE WANT OUR #REDTAPE OVERSIGHT BODY that consists of INLY participants!! NOT more biased buraucracy controlling the research, evidence, and choices of participants!!!!! The NDIS—framed as a knight in shining armor, but under that gleaming helmet, isn't there just a whiff of Big Brother? Here we are, pondering the darker #biopolitical nuances that weave through the system like a well-tailored suit designed to fit just a tad too snugly. It’s all about support, they say. But let’s cut through the euphemisms and talk about the strings attached. 1. Surveillance and Control: Isn't it just lovely how we've managed to dress up surveillance in the noble garb of accountability? The #NDIS keeps tabs under the guise of 'monitoring for your own good', but one can’t help but wonder, whose "good" are we really talking about? Isn’t this just a modern Panopticon where Foucault would have a field day? 2. #Categorization and Segmentation: Oh, the joy of labels! The NDIS seems to love its labels almost as much as a teenager loves new Instagram filters. But here's a tickler: when we start slicing the pie of resources, who decides which slice is more deserving? Do these labels actually help, or do they shove people into boxes that society then stacks neatly out of the way? 3. Conditional Autonomy: Freedom, but on a leash. The NDIS offers choices, sure, but with a menu so restricted it might as well be a diet plan. What happened to #empowerment and self-determination when every decision comes with a "terms and conditions may apply" sticker? 4. State Paternalism: Big Daddy #Government knows best, right? The state rolls out these programs with a pat on the head, deciding what's best without perhaps listening to those it claims to serve. How paternal can you get before it turns into a straightjacket of good intentions? 5. #Exclusion and Marginalization: Ah, the irony! A scheme designed to include everyone somehow ends up excluding those who can't tick the right boxes or speak the right bureaucratic language. Is this a club where not all memberships are valued the same? 6. Instrumentalization of #Disability : Reducing people to budget lines—now there's a capitalist's dream! Does the NDIS, in its zeal to manage costs and outcomes, lose sight of the individuals it's supposed to uplift? Have we traded in human complexity for a spreadsheet of efficiencies? The moral of this story? When support systems start looking like control mechanisms, it’s time to ask some hard questions. Are we building ramps to greater freedom, or just smaller cages with nicer views? Maybe it's time for a little less bureaucracy and a little more humanity. Let’s not forget, every statistic on a report represents a real person who's probably more interested in living life than being managed. Bill Shorten Marie J.
