As someone who rarely posts on social media, I never thought I would be sharing my thoughts here until today. Dusting off old textbooks has brought back many memories, some of which I never want to forget. So here I am, leaving a message as a reminder to myself.
People is the only reason I am where I am today.
People include all the clients who have been placing their trust in us. I have been fortunate enough to witness some of the toughest times that IDEAL Plan Management has gone through and continues to navigate. This allowed me to gain a deep understanding of how the scheme has evolved over time. Our clients, however, do not have the luxury of time to be involved in the ins and outs. Instead, they entrust us with the ability to alleviate some of their pressure.
People include all the team members who have been continuously trying their best to shield our clients from uncertainties and changes. Like some of the other industries, the rising cost of living has pushed many businesses to the edge. It is the team that keeps us moving forward. Every day, I wake up feeling blessed to work with so many people who are willing to go above and beyond to support individuals with disabilities, and look out for each other.
People also include all the leaders who have empowered me on this journey Thomas Boyd, Nick Dahl, Harshana Jayawardena, Mark O'Shaughnessy, Garry Murphy, Dino Augusto Vido, Rod Scott and Billy Kang.
Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
And to the emerging leaders out there, here are my key takeaways from my years with Nexia. I hope it will benefit some of you down the track.
- It is okay to get frustrated. Personally, I do not believe in “never taking things home”. Find a safe place to vent. As long as the time it takes you to recover from emotions is shortening, you are progressing.
- If you are feeling uncomfortable, you are progressing.
- There are always multiple perspectives to everything. As challenging as it is, putting ourselves in other people’s shoes will help aligning perspectives.
