Before this year’s Productized Conference kicked off, I joked with Joao Moita that we might be taking a bit of a wild, risky gamble. I mean, starting a product conference by talking about Portuguese fishermen? We knew it would make people glance at their badges to double-check if they’d wandered into a product event or an evangelical meeting! But there was method in the madness, and I trusted João and Tracy Rolling process. Here’s a glimpse of the story we shared and the lessons we can all take away from it: “From the rugged cliffs of Portugal’s coastline, generations of fishermen set out into the unpredictable Atlantic, armed only with resilience. The ocean could be both a provider and a destroyer. Yet, they continued day after day, knowing that while survival wasn’t guaranteed, the fight was always worth it. Resilience wasn’t just their armor—it was their lifeline.” ✨ 𝗟𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝟭: 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗸𝗲𝘆. As product managers, we need to embrace resilience to navigate the uncertain waters of product development and innovation in tech. “But these fishermen didn’t journey alone. They were held up by their community—a network of families and friends who relied on one another for survival. It was this sense of belonging that gave them the strength to push forward, knowing their efforts sustained an entire village. Community was the backbone of their resilience and ownership.” 🧑🤝🧑 𝗟𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝟮: 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 Whether it’s your internal team or the wider product community, lean on them for support and inspiration. Strong connections make a world of difference in tech leadership and career growth. “In the end, the sea gave nothing freely, and neither does life. Every risk, every decision was a test of ownership. To be a fisherman was to take full responsibility for their livelihood and the well-being of those who waited ashore. And in that same spirit of resilience, community, and ownership, we gather today.” 🛡️ 𝗟𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝟯: 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗼𝘄𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽. Own your decisions, your product, and the impact you have on your users.
