Beyond Labels…. The landscape of neurodiversity is rapidly evolving, challenging outdated and narrow definitions. As we move beyond rigid labels like autism and ADHD, it's crucial to recognise the interconnectedness of neurodevelopmental differences and their intersection with other identities such as race, gender, and socioeconomic status. Intersectionality is a powerful lens through which we can understand how multiple aspects of a person's identity can influence their experiences. For individuals with neurodiversity, this means acknowledging that their unique blend of traits may be shaped by factors beyond just their neurodivergence. Key considerations for inclusive neurodiversity practices: 1️⃣ Individualised support: Recognising that each person's experience with neurodiversity is unique and requires tailored support. 2️⃣ Cultural sensitivity: Ensuring that neurodiversity practices are culturally appropriate and respectful of diverse backgrounds. 3️⃣ Accessibility: Creating environments that are physically, digitally, and socially accessible to individuals with neurodiversity. 4️⃣ Advocacy: Supporting individuals and organisations in advocating for neurodiversity awareness and inclusion. By embracing intersectionality and adopting a more holistic approach to neurodiversity, we can create workplaces and communities that truly value and celebrate the diversity of human experiences. Let's work together to build a more inclusive future for all. #neurodiversity #intersectionality #inclusion #diversity #equity #accessibility #leadership #advocacy

At Veho, we're committed to fostering an inclusive workplace where every individual feels valued and empowered. Our journey towards greater diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) has begun with a deliberate effort to educate ourselves and challenge our own biases. 💡 One impactful exercise we recently undertook during a DEI training session was particularly enlightening. We were asked to select five individuals from our lives, excluding family members, and reflect on how many of them fit into the same categories across various dimensions: ✔️ gender ✔️ age (+/- 5) ✔️ education ✔️ sexual orientation ✔️ physical/neurological abilities ✔️ marital status ✔️ ethnicity ✔️ hometown ✔️ mother tongue. The results were eye-opening, revealing the extent to which our social circles often are very homogeneous. This realization serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of actively seeking out diverse perspectives and experiences, both in personal life and in the workplace. We recommend trying it! #Diversity #Equity #Inclusion #ChallengeBiases

At Unicus Oy + auticon, we're thrilled to be part of #NeurodiversityCelebrationWeek2024! This year's theme is all about "Empowering Neurodiverse Voices - Building a Culture of Inclusion." So, how does this theme manifest in our organization; in its culture and core? For us, neurodiversity isn't just a checkbox – it's at the heart of everything we do. We believe in embracing differences and celebrating the unique strengths and challenges that each person brings to the table. Thus, #NothingWithoutUs is more than a slogan for us – it's a way of life. We're committed to involving neurodivergent individuals in every aspect of our work, from brainstorming sessions to decision-making processes. 🦋 If you support neurodivergent individuals only when they're masking their neurodivergence, you're not truly supporting them; rather, you're perpetuating a damaging practice. Similarly, allowing the neurotypical majority to speak on behalf of neurodivergent individuals or to represent them, diminishes visibility and opportunities, leading to discrimination and inequality. True support means respecting the autonomy of neurodivergent individuals and asking them directly what they need or want. 💜 #NeurodiversityWeek #EmpoweringVoices #InclusionMatters #Unicusauticon #neurodiversity #neuroinclusion #adhd #autism #inclusion #diversity #equity #equality #comeasyouare

Neurodivergence Advocate / Client & Programme Partner @ Moving Ahead | ADHD Lived Experience Speaker
Today at Moving Ahead we discussed National Inclusion Week (23rd to 29th September). As a part of this we're considering what inclusion feels like. So, go on, have a think of what inclusion feels like. My brain (combined type ADHD, undiagnosed Autistic) immediately started to break down the question. This is an important topic and I want to get my answer right. But then I realised I can interpret this question in so many ways. Am I being asked what inclusion feels like, to me? Well, if I'm honest, I've not experienced the feeling of inclusion much because I'm neurodivergent. And there are still too many obstacles for us in various aspects of life to feel "included". So, is the question actually asking "what does inclusion look like?". Because I can answer what it would look like for me, with examples of what people/organisations/society could adjust so I felt more included. But now I've done that common ADHD thing (but not all ADHDers!) where I'm now not actually answering the question. Eurgh, this is hard, right? So, I changed direction again and reverted back to "what does inclusion feel like to me?". And it took me hours to ponder this. I did it though. I've identified what inclusion, on the times I have truly experienced it, feels like for me. I'm not going to post my answers just yet because I'm really interested in hearing from others how they answer the question... what does inclusion feel like? Answers in comments. I may want to contact you regarding using your comments for work purposes, so if you choose to comment please accept I may contact you for permissions. I will not use anything without prior permission. (ooooh that felt all grown up and corporate and correct. Now I get a treat!) #NationalInclusionWeek #Inclusion #Neurodiversity #Neurodivergent #ADHD #Diversity

As we continue to strive for inclusivity and equality in our society, it is essential to understand the role of psychology in promoting diversity among humans. Psychology plays a crucial role in understanding how individuals from different backgrounds perceive and interact with each other. By studying the complexities of human behavior, psychologists can help to identify and address biases, stereotypes, and prejudices that may exist within diverse populations. Moreover, by promoting diversity in the field of psychology itself, we can ensure that the perspectives and experiences of individuals from all walks of life are represented and valued. This not only leads to a more inclusive and equitable society but also fosters innovation and creativity in problem-solving. It is important for organizations and individuals to recognize the impact of psychological factors on promoting diversity and inclusion. By embracing diversity in all its forms, we can create a more just and harmonious world for everyone. Let's continue to strive for a more diverse and inclusive society, where everyone's unique contributions are celebrated and valued. #Diversity #Psychology #Inclusion #Equality #HumanBehavior
