AI Advisor, on-demand CMO delivering scalable outcomes. Evidence-based marketing and GTM strategies. Human flourishing in technology and culture. PhD Candidate -generative AI. EdTech. Org Culture Change. Author. Speaker
Recent years have seen sweeping cultural shifts and market alterations that have left individuals feeling a lack of job security. Our innate negativity bias often frames this uncertain landscape as a potential menace to our well-being. The article introduces a thought-provoking inquiry, urging self-reflection on how one would react to a sudden job loss – as a crisis or an opportunity? It extends this reflection to how we perceive similar scenarios for our close colleagues, hinting at a potential avenue for altering our perspectives. The mantle of navigating the new career terrain doesn't rest solely on the individuals. Companies, along with their leadership, can take initiative to revisit and amend their talent management strategies in response to technological progress and market changes. The current discourse around Returning To Office (RTO) suggests a tendency to revert to old operational frameworks, signaling a need for a more progressive discussion on adapting to the new normal.

Even with the proliferation of intentional career changes in recent years, I gather from conversations with colleagues, clients, and friends that people feel disconnected. Disconnection is not a great place to be. This article by Herminia Ibarra nails why. The lightspeed rate of change in recent years creates wanted (and unwanted) opportunities to redesign careers and how we work. The loss of institutional support and related identity may be disorienting (John L. Combellick, M.S. Leadership explored this beautifully https://lnkd.in/eUpE_Exg ). A few points by Ibarra especially resonate with me about how to move forward: - The liminal state between a familiar past and an uncertain future is scary. - The season of uncertainty may be a time to explore and exploit, to redefine one’s career journey not by the path that a company lays out for people (usually to the company’s benefit) but by the interests and creativity of the individual. - Our networks matter and are important for both our health and expanding our reach for future opportunities. As Ibarra suggests, we can expand our capacity to self-lead through transitions and write our narratives. #careerdevelopment #changemanagement https://lnkd.in/e54sf8Ny
