I can only agree with Darren Orf at PM. Urgent action is needed! Our infrastructure is deteriorating at an alarming rate. One of the major challenges with large critical structures like bridges is our inability to accurately assess their internal condition. How much corrosion has occurred in the steel elements embedded in concrete? Are there any defects in the concrete itself? If we do not have the accurate information it is impossible to make an optimal maintenance decision. It is as simple as that! While technologies like ground-penetrating radar (GPR) and ultrasound can provide some insights into the structures, they have limitations, particularly in detecting chemical changes and reaching deeper areas of concrete. I know that muon tomography offers a solution to these challenges. It enables us to create detailed 3D maps of deep concrete structures, allowing us to identify chemical changes like corrosion and physical changes like crack networks. NO ONE CAN REPRODUCE PLANS ACCURATELY IF DIMENSIONING REMAINS THE SAME Ever wondered why most plans seem wrong when they are to be reused? I will show you how to solve this in a 3 minute video. But first, WHY? ⭕⭕⭕ In many countries, it is common practice to illustrate distance dimensions in 2 decimal places and to the nearest whole minute of a degree (230.62m and 51° 35') in land surveys. This was understandable back in the day when #compass and chain surveying was the standard for #landurveying. But today, all survey-grade GNSS units are capable of 3 decimal points of coordinates. Because a lot is lost to the last 1000th value of the distance dimension and the seconds of the degree bearings, it is almost impossible to reproduce a paper map accurately from what is often available. This has caused professional inconsistencies to survey maps produced by surveyors from different parties of a contested land or plots for engineering developments. I myself have had my fair share of worries 🥲 from land surveys I needed to execute #topographic surveys on. Adjustment computation is effective in closing-up the error in the inaccuracies caused by these rounded dimensioning (provided that the error is within the cadastral allowable limit of your region. In the video below, I show how a powerful function in #civil3D can be used to automate adjustment computation which can be a rigorous exercise for most surveyors who would rather choose to manually close the last leg of the plotted traverse.
