"[T]his goes beyond bandwidth. If you add advanced positioning, if you add security and authentication services, if you add resilience — these are all capabilities that come at a premium. And service providers need to offer premium service." Those are very big ifs, especially for an industry that is saddled with a lot of legacy technology and only innovates in their commercials. What we need is a more robust market to really innovate and put some pressure on the triopoly. https://lnkd.in/ewcE2rkw

As the world moves towards 5G, the need for secure and interoperable solutions has become more critical. Open RAN has emerged as a promising alternative to traditional closed systems, but concerns about the security of open interfaces remain. In my opinion, Open RAN presents a unique opportunity to build enhanced security, transparency, and control into our networks based on zero-trust principles. A zero-trust architecture in Open RAN would encrypt all open interfaces, validate and authorise all connection requests, securely store credentials, and adopt cloud-native security tools for intrusion detection and automated response. Unlike closed systems, Open RAN gives operators visibility into reference architectures, interface specifications, and security mechanisms implemented across various suppliers. We can define and mandate security standards, best practices, and certifications for all software and hardware components in the ecosystem. With Open RAN, we can finally achieve network security and trust transparency, reducing dependence on any single vendor. Combining interoperable platforms with zero trust security will be the critical enabler for cost-effective and secure 5G networks at scale. The journey has already started with pioneering deployments, and I look forward to continuing broadband innovations with the broader ecosystem. Are you exploring open and interoperable 5G solutions? What opportunities or concerns do you see regarding open interface security? I welcome any feedback or comments from my connections on this crucial topic. #OpenRAN #ZeroTrust #5G #NetworkSecurity #Interoperability

Hello everyone, One more report went live. It's the 2024 state of report for Private 5G networks in collaboration with Caroline Bonde, Kara Hartig, Kathryn Bell, Lauren Nelson, Cortney Eldridge, Brian Mukasa, Duncan Dietz, and Alexander Soley. Adoption, based on % of segmented decision-makers falling in the Advanced category, remained flat compared to Forrester 2023 report showing signs of market deacceleration. Industry players need to address few challenges faced by Advanced organizations (e.g., security, TCO, chipsets, etc.) before this market can pick -up its pace again. We use 5G every day? Do you know what components in Network make it real? In this post, let's try to understand about 5G core , components and its functionality . 5G Core Network The 5G core is the backbone of the 5G system, facilitating data flow and managing various network functions. AMF (Access and Mobility Management Function): Manages registration, mobility, and connection establishment for the UE. SMF (Session Management Function): Handles session establishment, modification, and termination, responsible for setting up data connections. UPF (User Plane Function): Manages data forwarding between the RAN and external data networks. UDM (Unified Data Management): Stores user subscription data and assists in the authentication and authorization process. PCF (Policy Control Function): Controls policy rules for resource allocation, traffic handling, and quality of service (QoS). NSSF (Network Slice Selection Function): Responsible for selecting appropriate network slices for specific services, which helps in network slicing. NRF (Network Repository Function): Provides service discovery and registration functions within the 5G core network. #5G #5gcore #5gnetwork
