Excellent article by Ben Allen. TY for sharing the learnings from a system I have always looked to as a north star. "They did a 1 year public engagement to understand the needs of the community." This should be the starting point of any system re-design. Understanding the needs of the community & people being served ➡ People-centred design - not system-centred design = greater chance of success + sustainability.

The Nuka system of care, run by the Southcentral Foundation in Alaska, has been described as "the best primary care system in the world". It has sustained its outstanding outcomes for the past 25 years. In this analysis, Ben Allen GP explains that it wasn't just a change in the process of care but a whole different way of thinking about care: https://lnkd.in/e4BE_hvr Source of graphic: Doug Eby Southcentral Foundation

Improving urban infrastructure isn’t just about buildings and roads—it’s about promoting public health and creating equitable, sustainable communities. Did you know: extreme heat is the number one weather-related killer, disproportionately affecting low-income neighborhoods, elderly individuals, and communities of color. Last year, it contributed to over 2,300 deaths in the United States alone. Our partnerships with American Public Health Association, American Lung Association, and Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health underscore the crucial link between health, climate, and infrastructure. Together, we’re working to implement solutions that prioritize equity and resilience, ensuring a safer future for all. 🩺🏘️ Source: U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) 🔗: https://lnkd.in/gjexwQ7F

#CitizenScience Profile The #urbanheat island effect, compounded by #climatechange, threatens city livability and public health. The CALOR project, organised by the team at aquí, hosts hands-on citizen science workshops in Barcelona to investigate the causes of heat waves and raise awareness among communities in Barcelona.
