During a visit to Microsoft this week, our Chairman, HE #DrSultanAlJaber, emphasized the critical need for businesses to expedite the synergy between energy and AI, aiming to "build a bridge to a low-carbon, high-growth" future. During a podcast conversation with Microsoft Vice Chair and President Brad Smith, His Excellency underscored the significant energy requirements necessary to fuel the AI revolution and the formidable challenge of providing the lowest carbon energy possible. By leveraging AI, HE #DrSultanAlJaber noted that the energy sector has a prime opportunity to collaborate across industries, transforming operations by increasing efficiency, reducing emissions, and enhancing safety. One of the top tech roles for 2024 is AI innovation and development. However, the biggest players in the sector are seeing that this progress comes at a significant cost. As of last month, Microsoft shared its participation in the single largest carbon removal agreement to date. They’re committed to purchasing half a million metric tons of CO2 removal credits, which will be stored underground, and revealed plans to be carbon negative in just 6 years. → But why now? ← In short, AI. With the rapid growth of AI technology comes a measurable increase in carbon emissions.
